Default My Second radar detector and it is an rx65. good or bad choice?

Hey every body I have tried a v1 but since it was too noisy and to expensive I had to give it up. I havent used a radar for a long time but I wanted to get one because I missed knowing where leos could be at.

I choice the rx65 I was wondering you guys would tell me if this is a good radar detector. My leos use 35.5 alot and alot, I was wondering if rx65 is good with ka 35.5. And if there is any other rx65 users here that could tell me how they like their rx65 when it comes with this band.

I also saw when I was reading the features it had, about Ka USA and International. Is there really any range difference between thse two modes. And if so by how much, is it really noticelbe in real world.

    Thank You

First off bel dude where do you live what state and what type of area do you live in. That has a lot to do with 35.5 - Urban, Rural, City, Etc.

The RX65 is a good detector, but against 35.5 any detector is sometimes not enough. Let me know what you deal with and what area and I can help you better.

the V1 has almost double the 35.5 range of the rx65, per GOL tests. However, the m4 based units are better off-axis.

Well since you do a lot of Suburban Driving, no handheld detector will give you adequate detection. I know this believe me.

The Rx65 should do well where its straight or open or Constant On (C/O). The problem with all handhelds is off-axis, rural (where theres not a lot of things the signal can bounce off of), and instant on. You usually have at least one of those but a lot of times have all three. C/O you should be fine always but Instant On is where the problem is.

The Valentine is deffinatly not suited for you as it has tunnel vision and picks up things really far out in front of it but off axis has trouble with. The STI would probably be the best handheld but knowing what your going to deal with I wouldn't suggest that either.

I would really suggest the STI-R, the remote version of the STI which has about double the range that the regular STI does and has narrow ka band, which is key. My STI-R will be scanning only 35.5 as its the main threat and for you, if you bought this detector I would have it on the 3 us bands, as it will boost your signal strength. Then have X band off and K on.

Your only reliable solution for the closest thing to complete protection is the STI-R or 9500ci. It will be worth the extra price tag believe me.

Anybody who says that the Valentine or STI/9500ix etc. will be good enough protection for a speeder in *rural* driving areas against 35.5 KA I/O is wrong as my regular STI doesn't do the job and since it is crap along with the 9500ix and Valentine (though the valentine I havn't used a lot on the rural roads). I've seen it first hand numerous times thats why I only go a max of 10 over on the back roads/rural roads now. The STI is probably the best handheld for this particular driving (rural) and yes even over the Valentine one and it still isn't enough protection to say the least.

C/O it does fine as will any detector but I/O is where they all have troubles against this band.

BTW, I just checked ebay and you can pick up a legit one for about 800 dollars. Which im serious, it will be worth it to pay the extra 300 over the STI. If you do purchase anything off of ebay, please post or send a pm to me to see if its legit as often times they take the serial number off and you won't get a warantee

I know that concealed displays would be better, but I dont have the money for it rigt know. I usually go over 10-15 mpg over the speed limits. I am aware that cops use I/o on here and as we as Constant on. I just wanted a good detector that would give me good warning with this band. Rather its constant or Instant on. They sti a good choice to, but however out of my price range. There are alot of rx65 out there the is around 200-300 dollars. I think circuit city is closing their stores, so they should have sales.

And I agree with you M4 are better of axis, the v1 I used wasnt that good at all with off axis
