Default Re: Transfer Locked Out Locations from 9500i to GX-65 and general impressions

After owning both the 9500i and GX65, my preferred is DEFINITELY the 9500i. I like the "Multiple signals detected" alert when using the Expert Meter, versus the Threat Meter on the GX65.
    )))))

Thats kinda confusing, cause the GX will give a multiple signals alert when using the tech mode, where it displays multiple bands at one time and their signal level.

I've heard it, it says multiple signals detected, then look at the screen and there they are.

I've tested this particular setup with my STi and all of my other Bel/Escort RDs which I either own or have tested.
I tried this last night and a few hours of driving today. Regardless of where I put the detectors the STi alerts to X band every 10 minutes or so for about 5 seconds - there is no X band here in the Adirondacks (cell phone towers etc). If I shut the Gx off, then no X band alerts.

Troopers are busy - 4 Ka band encounters and 1 20/20 encounter. On-axis for Ka band the 2 are very close with the Sti as the winner buy 1-2 secs. Off axis the Sti wins by quite a margin 5-6 secs. K band signs off axis where the Sti alerts to 1-2 bars leaves the GX silent. With the LTI I got scatter with Both. I was not targeted first but my rabbit (a vw, how appropriate) was hit about 600 feet from me. No LPP on the first shot but both detectors alerted. I moved to the middle lane then he hit me and all items lit up.

Certainly not testing you can accurately rely upon, but a gauge.

Still a tad disappointed with K band, but overall not too bad. Seems like I have to send it back to get the GPS fixed and not sure if I will keep it, but I like toys so I just may ask them to make sure everything else is in spec.

I’m starting to think putting all this cool stuff into our RD's isn’t necessarily a good thing.
However all 3 of my 9500I's never had a problem, yet...

I have had absolutely no problems at all with my GX.
The K band detection is waaaay good, but I dont have anything to compare it to except actual distance.

Yeah, and in Arizona, detection distances are ridiculous. Tough to tell what's better than what.

I drove around with the GX65 today, DEFINITELY NOT A 9500i. They aren't even close. The Threat Meter sucks, only can show 1 Ka 1 K and 1 X at the same time. Suppose there are 2 Ka bands at once, sorry, it's only going to show the strongest ONE.

One other thing I think is incredibly stupid is how the GX65 only double beeps if you are below 25 mph, no constant tone even if you are on top of the signal. Think about it, you could be coming into a School Zone at 24 mph, with a PSL of 15 mph. It will only double beep, then be completely silent. Definitely NOT right. That idiot feature should be able to be turned off.

The 9500i is so much more competent it's scary. Kind of like comparing a 9500i to a Cobra. For me it's that bad. Don't like it, it's being sold ASAP.

The GX65 does, however seem to be fairly close to my 9500i in sensitivity.

What does the 9500i do when you blast it with a radar gun at 0 mph or 15 mph?

Thats the difference between Bel's Threat Meter and Escort's Expert Meter. Threat Meter numerically shows you the signal strength of each radar band being detected whereas Escort's Expert meter shows you tiny little vertical bar graphs in order to display up to 4 X band alerts and up to 2 each of K and Ka band alerts. I had to get a bit used to using Escort's Expert Meter after having used Bel's Threat Meter. I am sure that the Threat Meter would take a little bit of getting used to after having used Escort's Threat Meter.

If you had your cell phone powered on while testing this setup, then its harmonics combined with the GX65's harmonics will periodically trip up the STi's X band filter algorithms for ignoring 700MHz cell phones. I had this exact same problem with my STi until its most recent firmware update.

In my opinion, it should be shut off when in highway mode.
I still think there is something buggy about when you turn off the gps while the unit is still on without cycling the power. It still only beeps twice if you are doing 0 mph. Im gonna call Bel tomorrow and ask a few questions and make a few suggestions to the technical dept.
