Default STI review ongoing firmware 4G8M3

    externally its 4G8M3, internally A4M9

Just getting started , I was wondering if this would be like a Tonka Truck , over 10 oz, but it carries its weight very well, a non issue. The size is smaller than you would think. The little mini case is neat, I wish it also came with a simple soft carry case too, as better hide that $100 looking case from view.

I only put about 30 miles on the unit but will be heavily engaged over the weekend , that will really put some numbers up, one known CVS store false I came to, seem to indicate xband one way and K band the other , right on top of the store.

The only kaband I ran into was on a 30mph road, coming to an intersection, alert went off, I couldnt see anything till I got down to the intersection, PD was across the road in line about to turn left, this was off axis, Id say 1.5 tenth mile to target.

I'm running in full Highway mode, so far though, I expected much more false alerts, it seems to be pretty quiet thus far.

I'll update later in a few days, after a little combat

I love mine!!! I just got it a few weeks ago. It saved me several times. I got saved last night. Usually come off the get on ramp rather fast and he was right there, so I am glad that I got the alert. He was about half a mile

Have fun doing battle with your STi and keep reporting your results!

QL4G8M3 is the FCC ID. QL4 is the identity assigned to Bel and G8M3 is the FCC assigned designation for the antenna platform. Thats why we all refer to the STi has having an M3 antenna. A4M9 is your firmware version which in your case is the same firmware version as in my STi.

Thanks for clearing that up Mem-Tek

I was responding to asian fire, but my post wouldnt go through.

A slight snag I've run into, which would not effect most.

The ear jack volume level is really low , I'm having to run it on full max and it still wasnt loud enough sitting in front of my quiet computer, I had to modify my ear plug to let more sound in. Just barely adaquate, we'll see how that works out in high wind turbulance but I dont like to run anything on full max to make it just functional.

Could be a serious issue for me, but

In a vehicle the normal speaker volume seems adaquate

You might just need an earplug which has a lower impedance, but don't go below 16 ohms. Radio Shack might possibly have one to suit your needs.

Its somthing STi related, the GX had plenty of volume range, same ear plug setup. I could only run the gx on half volume, with ear jack, STi is maxed out and also had to modify the ear plug, even in the vehicle after today at full blast, its not that loud at max, if you have a radio on.

    ear jack testing starts tomorrow

i wonder if they used a lesser quality speaker setup , since they provided an external speaker setup, which I have no desire to mess with that.

No, the speakers within the two RDs are identical. The difference is in the circuit which drives the amplified speaker jack. On the STi this circuit is configured to generate a lower peak to valley voltage difference. Remember that the STi's electronics were designed before Escort designed the 9500i and 9500ix electronics, and that apparently Escort must have decided to increase the voltage for the remote amplified speaker jacks on these later models. Anyway, thats my guess for what its worth.

Hmm...Perhaps do the online chat thing with Beltronics on Monday and ask them what the minimal acceptable impedance is for any speaker or earphone which is plugged into the STi's earphone jack. They may need to take your email address and get back to you on this one.

I was on a 4 lane rural highway and nothing around 15 mile in either direction and its not completely flat or straight, heading up hill at the time. I get a Kband hit on the STI, Now nothing is in this area, it has to be real. I start counting and counting and counting getting into the right lane running about 65mph and keep counting. At the 2 and 1/2 mile mark atleast. BAMMMM!

There he is POlice, RD doesnt make a PEEP as he goes by ,

That KBAND hit was an instant on hit atleast 2 and 1/2 mile away

    That was of value

I got alot more testing to do, but that is a positive, previously mentioned with the ear plug mod, the volume was plenty loud, but I really dont want the ear plug mod to be the norm, thats the main thing I didnt care for when I first tried the ear jack with this model.

Hopefully I get much more action tomorrow
