Is the STIR as senstive as the V1? I'm conisdering buying an STI-R and giving my gf the ix.
Any suggestions?

I'm sure someone who owns them can chime in... but from what I've seen on the forums, they both have their advantages. Sensitivity is actually better on the STi-R, but it doesn't pick up quick triggers as well as the V1 does. It also doesn't have as good as ramp up as the V1 either. With that said... from what I've gathered if you had to pick one it seems like the V1 is a better choice. Not only that, the V1 is noticeably cheaper.
I actually own both right now but I haven't installed my STi-R yet.
I'm going to say go with the V1. It is better than the STi-r against I/O and in my opinion has better off-axis detection and over the hill detection. The arrows and bogey counter are priceless when determining whether a signal is real or false and where its location is. The STi-r is a great detector but only if you mount the radar receiver with a clear view of the road. With a V1, you can stick it on your windshield and go![]()
I agree that you should give the ix to your gf. It is the perfect RD for women. It does all the thinking for them and they don't have to tinker with it too much.
They are very close in performance. The STi-R has an advantage on Ka, the V1 on X band, and about equal on K band.
It's really hard to move the STi-R to another vehicle though. Both are chatty and of course the V1 has arrows.
If I had to choose just one I would go with the V1, but since I don't I choose to run both.![]()

If you looking for defense against the Highway patrol(34.7) go with the sti-r but for everything else v1.
As far as falses, that may be close to you, there's like 2 week k-bands around WashU and and a really strong one near Big Barnes. Since there's not many hills in your area you'll get good range with either.
Do you like the ix?
I really like the features of the ix. I manually lock out the falses because I don't trust the autolearn. I must say that its a great detector compared to the x50. The updates via usb is a great feature for the rlc's since there are no speed cams here. There isn't anything I don't like about it. Overall I'm glad and happy that I bought it.
Have you encountered any speedcam in STL?
Both great RD but totally different. One is dash mount for 400 dollars and the other is remote mount, non detectable by RDD and cost 700 and up now. The V1 you can move to different vehicles the STi you can't. Is there still a warranty on the STi? I have a V1 and was ready to buy the STi for the wife's truck. Now, who know's what to do.
As far as detection, from what I read on here, they are very close most of the time. That said, I just ordered the V1 for her, and am selling her red X50.
The STi-R's 35.5 and 34.7 sensitivity cannot be beat from what I have seen with the segments turned off and RDR off as well. The K band seems almost up to par with the V1s. The V1 will beat it most of the time when it comes to K band, but I have seen the STi-R out alert it on the same band.
When it comes to I/O the STi-R will alert about 1.5 seconds after the V1 with K band, but on Ka they alert at the same time, which is probably because I have the RDR off on the STi-R.
As far as X band goes my STi-R is just barley less sensitive then the V1. The V1 ussually alerts about 2-3 seconds before the STi-R, which really does not matter to much because X band is easy to detect and the sensitivity is way up there with both of these detectors. The cops that I have ran into with X band I have had way to long to slow down C/O.
If you live in an area that has flat straight roads then I would go with the V1, but if you have a lot of hills and curves in your area then I would go with the STi-R. If off axis 35.5 is any bit of a threat I would also go with the STi-R.
I have not had any runins with 33.8, so I cannot comment on that band.
If you got a lot of theives in the area, go Sti-R. If not, V1. You will be happier with the V1's arrow but always be worried about a smashed window. That alone will encourage you to get the Sti-R.
