Nothing over the interwebs. V1s must be sent to Valentine Research for upgrades.

The Rx65 and Gx65 can both be updated, the Gx can be updated by hooking up to computer for some software updates, redlight camera updates and speed traps updates the Rx has to be sent in for the standard software updates and yes there is a fee if you send it in. But for the person who asked which is better, its kinda like this. The Gx is better on some frequencies and the Rx is better on others. all k band my Rx is better, some ka band the Gx is better, All detection around curve and Leo hiding in the median with(trees) the Rx is better, least false Gx is better, Laser GX is better, long range the RX is better. Now i started use them both because two heads are better than one. And for me that works just fine. P.S and for rear detection the Bel Vector995 is better. (used in wife car)

Hopefully not using both at the same time! There is alot of discussion on here about the reduced sensitivity of using two RD's (windshield mount units) at the same time due to leakage. I think the GX and RX are the same antenna (M4). Which would mean same range and ability. If your both at the same time that would explain why one seems to be better than the other. Check the threads.

I kinda figured that someone would say exactly what you are saying. But I actually have 4 Different Beltronic Radar Detectors all high end modles at one time ;o) and I have tested them as a stand alone unit and as tandom units and the results are as stated. The Rx 65 is a better detector than Gx 65 and they are not even close to being the same detector. And just incase you are wondering I just sent them all in for service in December because I thought like you, they should preform close to the same. In December I had software updates and calabration test preformed and after getting them back the Rx is still the better Detector even more so now. I have 2 bel 995 one older and one newer (1) Rx 65 (1) Gx 65. The 995 (newer one) have a better ability to detect from the rear than the others, the RX can detect from the side and around curves alot better than the others followed by both 995 then GX65, the gx65 has better Laser and(ka 35.5 streight ahead only) borrow or buy one and test it for yourself. I have owned every highend detector from Bel since 1996 and the Gx is the worst for the money. It does alot but for the money its the worst.

For distance C/O the RX65 beats the GX65 slightly. Since they have the same antenna I have to assume its due to GPS processing overhead. However, with I/O the GX65 beats the RX65 in the GOL tests. My personal experience backs up that its very sensitive to I/O (still lacks with Q/T though that's a weakness in most Bel/Escorts but I have found some settings which do better than others). I've got some long distance I/O detection over curves and wooded hills, couple posted on video. Especially with K-band, which is the biggest concern where I live, most of the rural departments out here run either laser or K-band. The odd thing is the GX65 doesn't do as well with I/O if GPS is turned off.

As to laser, I can tell you from test runs against 4 different laser guns at 3 different test sites that the GX65 picked up every single frontal laser shot at almost the extact same time as my Blinders. In about 70 of the cases they alerted to rear laser which is quite good considering it's mounted in the video and my head can get in the way; plus rear shots start at a close distance which means the beam is still quite small). My Whistler XTR690 beat it for Ka distance on the highway but the GX65 is way more sensitive to laser (note that laser detection doesn't do you any good if you don't have jammers). Even with the Whistler beating it, the GX65 provides more than enough warning distance (enough to slow both down and turn on a video camera!).

If you are operating any of these together in the same vehicle then they are definitely interfering with each other. Inteference doesn't only cause false alerts, it will also cause poor or erratic detection, especially in our detectors due to their advanced anti-falsing processing. Most detector emissions come straight out of the antenna horn so radar reflections as you drive will alter the behavior of the unit on-the-fly. I wouldn't trust any results attained while operating multiple detectors together. Bel Sti Driver, and Escort RedLine excluded, their M3 antennas emit nothing

The GX65 should detect Ka slightly better than the RX65, other radar bands should be very close between them.

Factory settings yes............but the RX65 has USA mode while the GX65 does not. USA mode is very similar to Band Segmentation on the STi-R and cuts out a good portion of the Ka band that is not used here in the US.

Therefore, I would put my money on the RX65 in USA mode! It should improve reaction times and bump up the sensitivity another notch with fewer frequencies being scanned.
