    Default Autoscan?

Does anyone know or be able to shed some insight into how Autoscan really works in GPS enabled detectors. I know it increases its sensitivity when speed is increased and vica versa. But for example if i'm travelling along a highway with Autoscan on and travelling well above the speed required for it to be at maximum sensitivity is there anymore K band filtering going on?

if i were you i would just leave it on highway. if its a gps detector, the sensitivity will automatically adjust to how fast your going

I believe it works much like Escorts detectors do. Above 55mph (someone confirm as im not POSITIVE on this number) and its like being in Highway, which is the least filtered and maximum sensitivity mode. So no, there shouldn't be any K band filtering differences.

i leave mine in autoscan. keep from getting too much false in the city, the long range cause too much distraction.

I wish mine falsed more sometimes just so i knew it still worked. Its SO quiet. Course everytime it does go off, im on the brakes like a fat chick on a ho ho.

Keep mine in Highway BTW. ALL the time. Never even touched that setting.

So if this is this case none of the filtering that occured on my previously owned sti-r occurs. Like the pairs of frequencies from weak automatic door falses filtered out and briefly parking on a weak signal before alerting?

The reason I'm asking is because a highway I regulary travel on has one of those roadwork signs on it displaying your speed. I was doing a 100 when I approached it and got a fair amount of warning in autoscan. I then realised I left my phone at home so went back to get it. But this time before I approached it I put the detector into highway mode which gave me significantly more warning then before in autoscan.

Which made me wonder if autoscan does more than just speed based filtering since the conditions I approached this sign where identical?

Are you sure they were identical? There are many reasons you could pick up radar from more or less range in seemingly similar circumstances. Changes in humidity, air particulates, the types of vehicles around for the radar to reflect off of, or the lack thereof of vehicles to block the signal, etc.

Perhaps this really is happening, but id say it'd take a number of more passes to see if the conditions are repeatable, and then see if they're statistically significant.

Exactly the same. No cars on road both times and about ten minutes apart. But I'll go far a drive later and confirm this.
