Default Picking out new radar detector

Im looking to get a new detector .. I need to get rid of my POS 12 band Cobra that doesnt pick up crap until I literally pass the police .. I am done with Cobra, it has saved me 0 times.. I got a $150 budget to spend. I want to stay with beltronics brands .. Im looking at the V940 currently .. I was also looking at a refurbed escort 8500 ...
Can you guys think of a better detector?

Does anyone have pictures of the displays? Also pictures of the units in your car? To me pictures speak 1000 words.. I want something thats easy to read and I am looking for something with voice talk ...

I would appreciate any help! Thanks

With a $150 budget, then the Refurb 8500 is an excellent choice.

Does it withstand heat well? I live in GA, so it gets up to about 100 degrees outside .. I usually keep my detectors mounted to the windshield with the suction cups and let the detector rest on the dash ... I need one that withstands heat well ..

Mount your detector properly, as high as possible, behind the tint strip. Your performance will be notably better, and the unit better protected from the sunlight.

Do all of the models (v940, v955, 8500) all have hardwire options? Ive never hardwired one before .. And if I mount it high, I would want it hardwired instead of a coiled wire getting in my way ....

The 940, 955, 8500/X50 can all be hardwired. With a $150 budget, I recommend the 8500 refurb too.

I bought a V955 for about that price and I'm happy with it. Not the high end RD but definitely better than what I was using...
