    Default RX65 or GX65 or ???

I'm currently undecided between the above units. I live in NJ where we don't have a lot of red light cams and no speed cams. Although I would use the unit for everyday driving, the main purpose would be occasional trips to Hartford Ct. The RX is $240 and the GX is $280. Any opinions on whether the RX would suit my needs, or if I should go with the GX? I was also looking at the Sti ($400), but I don't need the Stealth, so I figured that was just wasting money.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Where the heck are they that cheap? Used?

Even if you don't need speed and red light camera alerts, the GPS in the GX-65 allows it to have one other important feature, Trulock. If you're passing a false alarm, you press the mute button three times and it will not alert to it when you drive past it again.

Of course, the Escort 9500ix has that, and Autolearn as well, which means it automatically determines what are false alarms and what are not. It also automatically removes a lock-out area if it detects that the signal is gone.

Those features are only really useful if you're always driving in the same area and there are a lot of false alarms, like around town. If I were just taking occasional trips on the highway I would probably choose the RX-65. They both perform identically; the extra cost is for the features.

If u want GPS, go 9500ix...If you dont want GPS, got 8500 X50. If you want MAXIMUM performane, go V1 or Redline

I have the RX65 and love it. I have X band turned off because I know there are no X band units where I am. There is X band used in NJ, so you will have to keep it on. This is why I think it would be worth it to get the GPS enabled GX65. This way you can lock out falses, like the other poster said. And the variable speed sensitively should cut down on falses as well. That should make having X band turned on tolerable.

Does the unit lock out by location or location and frequency? If you have a location such as a bank locked out, and on day while passing the bank a cop is sitting in the bank parking lot, will the unit go off... or are you screwed? If it wouldn't go off, I'm thinking that maybe I'd be better off with the RX...

I believe someone asked that same question and a member answered area but the cops radar will be a stronger signal and you will be alerted long before you get to the lockout area

I thought it analyzed the specific frequency and the GPS coordinates to determine the lock-out so that just in case a cop does what you are suggesting, the unit will recognize the difference in frequencies and provide an alert?

I don't know your area but basically I would recommend do an evaluation of what speed cameras you will be up against, found out how well the rx65's perform against them as well as the possibility of any new low powered radar threats that are going to be introduced. Do police use constant on in your region? If you are up against those sort of threats dont worry about gps and some k band falsing eliminator just go for pure grunt performance (valentine one), you'll need it. For example if you were to buy a detector at the time that was going to offer just enough warning for you to slow down, then 1 year down the track the Police change their arsenal you might not be covered and will have to upgrade therefore potentially costing you more $$ in the long run.
