    Can a detector made with a high-quality metal shell like an STi or V1 actually be crushed from the weight of a car? I'm not exactly willing to try it myself, but I imagine it would just get scratched and ugly but would still work.

    Anyway, I would love to be offered that option on my next stop for speeding. I would crush my V1 in a heartbeat to avoid a speeding ticket. The average cost for a lawyer around here, in my experience, is about $500. Replacing my V1 would cost $400. Figure the insurance costs if you don't win your case or can't manage to plead it down to something that doesn't get reported and it's a no-brainer.

    The LO emissions are kept at such a low level as to be undetectable by Spectre at distances beyond 1 meter due to several factors in the design of the M3 antenna system. Most of the isolation comes from the LNAs (RF amplifiers) that are in the front end of the horn. Essentially these LNAs block emissions from the LOs from radiating back out of the horn launch, additionally there are RF absorbers placed in the horn channels, as well as microwave absorptive paint on the bottom side of the pcb. The LOs are Phase Locked tuned every few minutes to ensure that the LO remains on frequency.
    So no it isn't really a possibility.

    The new Spectre Elite has the same detection capabilities as the previous model. The only differences are it now has a Selectable Filter switch (to cut down range on Cobras) and a temperature compensated LO, an idea borrowed from the RD industry most likely.. And oh yes........it is now RoHS compliant (lead free) as well.

    Microwave absorbing paints on the PC board? Interesting idea. Doesn't help a lot though.

    Low noise amp and oscillators are indeed a big help and all quality detector companies are now using them but they don't block microwave emissions out of the horn.


    Phase look cloop circuitry isn't a guarantee that the L/O will stay in tune The MPH radar uses a similar PLL system and has to be sent in periodically for retuning.

    From what I have seen there are some very good detectors that use what you quote to get the microwave emissions down to negligible levels where a person with goods eyes would see the policeman using even the new spectra and adjust his speed. The sti's are a great system but very pricey but IMO not as needed as they once were.

    Thanks a bunch for the patent. I love seeing this stuff. Just a friendy FYI here. Public Patents usually don't tell the whole story of any invention and this is on purpose.

    for example "elongated signal path.."

    I do like the conductive sealing gasket bit myself.
