Can I mute my stereo with STI driver?

I have a pioneer deck in my car that will mute if it receives a ground signal on the mute wire.

Is there anyway I can tap into the STI drivers led alert to send a ground signal to the mute wire while its alerting? Had a close call today cause I had the music too loud and the sun was bright so I couldn't see the LED's flashing

Not that i know of, but they have external speakers you can buy which are loud as ****.

it can be done - ill have to take a few minutes to lay it out for you. im sure many of the electronics geeks on here could do it also. ill try to find some time later tonight to lay it out on paper.

Could I tap into the alert LED and use that to trigger a relay? I could then use that to send ground to the mute wire? Good Idea? I'm pretty basic in my circuit skills.

if you do it that way, your stereo mute will "blink" as well

That would get my attention . I'll only engage this option when I'm cruisin out in the country with the tunes cranked.
