RX65 DISPLAYED SERVICE REQUIRED AGAIN

The other day my RX65 display Service Required again. Did a reset and eversince nothing happen. The first time it happened and cannot be reset despite several times. DIY self service instead sending back to Bel service
by adjusting the screw of the potentionmeter.

I believed the reset had indeed auto-calibrate itself and this feature has saved me from dismantling RX65 again from calibration manually.

:shock: :shock: The RX65 does not have a single potentiometer, none, nada, zip. If you are intrepid enough to disassemble the antenna you will find one adjustable inductor. This part is used to adjust the FM ICs discriminator circuit. Screw (pun intended) with this part and you will almost certainly kill the performance of the unit and end up with SERVICE REQUIRED. It's your $85 so adjust away but unless you have some solid radio repair background and some good equipment you're going to screw yourself.

I dismantled the horn antennae and on the circuit board there is only a adjustable screw well I don't know what you called it but as far as I'm concerned I did it by turning anti & counter clockwise patiently and lots of trial & error managed to get my RX65 back to performance standards. I stand correct to say it does pick-up all bands and laser, there isn't any sacrifice in range of picking up radar singnals and also junk & garbage signals.

Without some sophisticated test gear, you really have no idea that what you did is correct. When you state that it's now back to performance standards, I am really curious how you think you know that.

I used to repair CB and HAM radios and without solid test and measurement geat, Insidercw3 is totally correct in the guidance he posted for you.

obviously with the necessary tools & equipments it will be perfect job. having said again lots of trial & error. I've been experiencing and using RX65 for the past 2 years and very certain of it's performance.

I opened up my RX65 the other day, yea I know kinda stupid, but I was curious...and I didn't see the screw to adjust???? was i just blind?

take out the horn antennae by removing 3 philip screws and remove the back cover of the antennae horn which consist of 3 philip screw and piece of screw & nut and you'll be able to see there is a screw for adjustment.

Thanks Jim for the photos. You people don't seems to understand and IMHO this forum for us to interact and shares our experiences and not forgetting to help one another. Instead peoples are trying to distort the truth that the RX65 cannot be repair (DIY).

Those who feel the US$85.OO is worth sending back to Beltronics by all means but I am here to share my experience with everyone and sincerely hope that my contributions will help those who encounter this technical problems.

Would a known single K band freq such as a auto door opener be good enough to use (go back to) to "align" with. If you knew that the door operated at 24.150 before the RD malfunctioned, could you go back, and adj until you see that freq again. Conversly would one be able to tell from the tech mode display that the RD is falling out of tune from a know freq spot.
