There are no Ku guns in the states. Will there ever be, probably not.

    amoney...

How would Ku band give away the Stealh ability of the STi ????

I swear I just read something from Radar Roy "somewhere" that his sources said that Ku band "is" on it's way to the US.

Roy..... if you're here... can you chime in on the Ku future ???

We might never see it, but I think if we do it is probably more than three years out. By that time, Beltronics will probably have an even newer unit available and if Ku is a threat I'm sure they'll add that capability.

    I wouldn't think so.

I just rememebred awhile back that the reason why no Ku band detection was becasue of the design of the STi, it has a sperate LO for X then it has a seperate LO for K which then can scan the Ka band as well. Because Ku is in the middle, that frequency would give away the STi to a spectre, traditional RD LO's "scan" up from X band including K and Ka, it also goes through Ku from the jump from X to K. But the STi has seperate hardware and does not give itself away.

PLEASE NOTE I CERTAINLY BUTCHERD the terminology and grossly explained things, JIM, I am sure will be all over this, I hope so, so he can make sense from all of this.

Now Roy said that the dumbasss at the electronic show from Beltronics said there is a way to enable this, I seriously do not believe what Roy was told. The salesman were just talking out there asss, making assumptions based on other RD models.

STi does not have USA mode. After talking to BEL, I think they did that on purpose. They don't want to have customers complaining because they got busted by a Ka band radar not within the USA frequencies.

Originally, I thought that Ku reception wouldn't be possible due to the STi design, because I had though that they were going back to the ~11 GHz LO design. But, they didn't. I don't think the lack of Ku is necessarily of consequence to being Spectre immune in general. I think it is just a result of the current design of the unit.

It is hard to say if the unit could be Ku capable in it's current state or not.

The Sti is pretty complex, there are separate oscillators for X, K, and Ka. But, there isn't one for Ku. If Ku could be received, it would of course be on the X-Band side. The STi has what I believe to be a low pass filter following the LNA. I don't know what the cutoff on this would be, or whether it would block Ku or not, or if the LNA provides enough reverse transmission at those freqs and the low pass filter is mainly for higher freqs.

Assuming Ku can even make it into the unit, Ku reception might be possible with the STi if they somehow configure the oscillators a certain way or something. I don't think the X-Band oscillator would have enough swing to be able to receive Ku the same way it does X-Band. If Ku band reception is possible, then they are bypassing the 2nd mixer like they did in the RX-65.

I just don't think Beltronics is all that concerned about Ku.

    Jim
