Aight guys lately what i've been doin is launching and just flying through my gears. I havent been letting go of the gas. I just push the clutch in and shift. Does this make you go any faster or is it just a waste of time?

Power shifting gives you slightly better times but your gonna F up you car doing that. :xOriginally Posted by Radar 4 Ever

Yeah you'll definately destroy your car especially the clutch...Launching is really bad for your car too and it really doesnt save you a lot of time off the line...my brother and i took his celica launched at 3000 rpms and saved us .1 seconds on the 1/4 mile but turn out worse in 0-60 by like .2 seconds...That being said what you should be doing is hold your e-brake up (KEEP YOUR FINGER ON THE BUTTON!) k now give your car a lil gas then pull as much off the clutch then when u wanna go drop off like the last 1/4 of ur clutch an let off the e-brake at the same time...and that my friend is how you do it...and when your shifting up while keeping on the gas do you notice that your tires burn out as soon as you drop off the clutch...hint hint thats bad for not only the car but for your times...hope this was helpfulOriginally Posted by Holla
Well for speed there are many techniques you'd have to try more or less. Launch technique needs to be tailored to your particular car since if you have too much power, too many revs will just put the tires up in smoke and you will take 10 minutes to do a 1/4.
You don't really want any wheelspin, you want to take it nice and easy enough until you are going fast enough to apply full throttle. You also want to upshift at such a point to get the most power out of the engine, which is not always the redline.
In normal driving, engaging the clutch when the flywheel isn't going just as fast as the clutch disc is, is quite bad. The wear will be increased from a number very close to zero to something noticeable. As well, you are applying a shock load to the gearbox, engine and CV shafts. That's never a good thing...
As well, keeping a wide throttle when the engine has no load (clutch in) would cause the revs to skyrocket wayy too fast and that can spin the main bearings or wipe the camshaft...
Alright thanks for the replys guys. I blew off an older 5 speed VW golf today. He was keeping up with me untill I power shifted into 2nd and then I lost him. His launch was a little bit better then mine.
