    Default Hardwiring GPS

I posted this in the GPS section but I'm not getting any responses, maybe it's not just the right forum, so I thought I would try here.

Any tips for Hardwiring my GPS?

I hardwired my Radar Detector, and now I'd like to do it for my GPS. I have a Mio Digiwalker C520. I have the car charger, but I'm not sure if I can cut it and then hardwire it like that. I really don't want to ruin the OEM Charger. Can I buy a standard one? The charger has a tip similar to that of the mini usb cables.

I also need to consider the change in voltage? Anyone know of anything I can do/use?

Is there a change in voltage? If you have like a ballast on the plug end you'd have to wire the plug to something.

Yeah the car provides 12. The Charger says the output is 5V, so I guess I would need something on the line to reduce the Voltage.

You can buy cigarette lighter to USB adapters, commonly used to charge cell phones. I have a small one that plugs into the 12V socket and provides a female USB port on the end. A regular USB to mini-USB cable will work.

I've bought two of these hardwire kits from this guy for my Garmins. Use this and a Add-a-fuse from AutoZone and your set.

Might want to get with the manufacturer and see if they offer a 12v hardwire kit.. would be the safest bet and wont fry your unit. Once they start smokin', it's usually too late.

I know for Garmin (which is what I have), the hardwire kit is pretty cheap and straight forward. what ever you do, make sure you put a fuze inline from your power source to the unit.

I'd recommend a factory hardwire kit if they make one,, best bet and will be matched for your units power operation/use.

    Best of luck!
