On your topic of consideration, is a 911 out of the question? Just a thought.
911 is firmly on the table. Very firm.

So my current GF thinks the M3 might be a bit dressy for me. I'm not sure what dressy means but she thinks it's a misfit. She likes the rally sport vibe from the RS4 which I like too.
To be honest, if you actually CARE about that kind of thing, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are entirely wrong for you.

Even a new Porsche is pushing it, but you could get away with it. Among the German cars, you really have two options...a VW R32 (which honestly needs a turbocharger to realize it's full potential, but then becomes, VERY literally, a miniature RS4...same AWD system, same engine placement, slightly smaller displacement, two fewer doors) or an air-cooled 911. If you want a German car and you care about it being "appropriate", you need a 993 or a 964 Turbo.

I still think you should have stuck with Starla. She was perfect for you.

The question is, are you willing to go with something other than a car you buy off the showroom floor and drive away as-is? What are you opinions on buying used vs buying new and then modifying...or for a Mk4 VW R32 (which honestly is a better car than the current Mk5), modifying a used car?

Starla was a good car but at 50k mile she was getting tired. Plus there was that "other" issue.

I never buy new, always used. Between 5 and 25k depending on the condition. I liked the R32 but the lack of power was the killer. I don't mind modifying it but I need to explore other options first. Especially since my garage is now 35 miles south of my weekday home. I can't just pop the hood and mess with it during the week like I used to. Another thing is I'm not sure I like running two cars. It's twice the expense and honestly the Jeep ran almost as many maintenance bills as the corvette did. So it is cost effective to buy a moderate to high end performance car and rent when it goes in the shop. Not sure what "dressy" means?? The GF thinks the M3 is a suit and tie car and the 335 is especially that way. I kind of see what she means except I'm not sure she understands I don't drive a car for status as much as driving as fast as possible. Speed is the endGame. And I can't afford a Veyron. But if I could. Well we wouldn't be having this conversation.

One thing I will say, BMWs feel like BMWs forever. Doesn't matter if they have 10 miles or 100K miles. The same can probably be said about Porsche. Gas $ isn't an issue for me, but I don't drive 100+ mile round trips to work each day. I go on 175-200 mile stints on my favorite driving roads in CT every nice weekend. That's almost a full tank of 93 gone from hard driving for one day, an average of 16-17 mpg. Consider both the E9X M3, RS4, and S4 are tremendous gas guzzlers. You seem like you drive alot so is 15-18 hwy mpg acceptable for you? If not, the 335 might be your best choice, or maybe even a P-car. Regarding efficiency, I still can't figure out how GM can create the fire-breathing engines in their C6 cars while maintaining such great gas mileage, but BMW and Audi FAIL?

Please keep in mind that a 335i will probably spend quite a bit of time at the dealer for free maintenance and warranty work. More so than the other cars.

RS4 looks and sounds better than the M3 for the most part. Inside and out. The M3 is a screamer and a genuine sports coupe though.

I think both are great cars but the RS4 gets my nod. I think it's sexier, love AWD, 400HP, man I'd love to have one in my garage.

Yeah, pretty much everybody agrees that the R32 is pretty slow out of the box. I have a friend who got a Mk5 R32 and then gave it up for a Mk5 GTI just because it was too slow. But the 3.2 VR6 takes boost VERY well and pretty much every single turboed 3.2 is an absolute monster. Go on VWVortex.com and do some searches for threads about them, you'll probably be impressed.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd get the 335i and enjoy it. Just remember to give Dinan a call and have it reflashed.

Well they do feel like BMW's but when the suspension bushings / other misc pieces there get wonky which they like to the car will drive you nuts with the shimmies
