Well you can't actually remove it, you just keep increasing it. The software maxes out at 317 or something, so I wanted something slightly more obtainable.

Be careful of changing any parameters in the computer if your car is still under warranty. GM can tell if it has ever been modified, even if you change it back to default, and can void your warranty. There was a big stink about this on the Corvette Forum because of course changing the factory tune is one of the first performance mods a lot of the guys make.

you got to chip it and disable the gov. its all jacked up the tranny is programed to, My truck cuts out at 99mph drives me nuts, i also read bout the black box edr it tells the investigators when you got in a wreck or hit someone how fast you were going and what stage the airbag went off the rpms and throttle position that way they throw you behind bars time to unplug sensors

I would not go with the handheld units some guys I know have had bad results I really lie PCMFORLESS (PCMforless.com) its a little expensive but you can change a lot of stuff and feel safe becasue these guys know what they are doing. After doing this to my 2004 trailblazer I6 its hauls compared to stock

Come down to Champaign, they didn't care. I went in with no mufflers, full aftermarket suspension, HP Tuners tune, my array of hard mounted radar detectors, and I got a tensioner and belt under warranty because mine was squeaking. I guess country dealers are nicer and more down to earth, all the ones in Chicago screw you over every chance they get.

    Read this:
Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia While a tune can probably be found guilty for a lot of times, for stuff like a belt a tensioner they'd have to be loopy to attempt to lay blame on the tune for that.

Second. Depending the type of set up, you might not need a full tune on your pcm to adjust the governor. The best thing to do would be to check out:
Westers Garage - Home of All Westers Custom Tunes
    Vector Motorsports - Home
or Tune Time tho I can't find a url.

Get active on your trucks message boards and you'll find out soon enough which way is the best way to go to lift the governor. If your truck is under warranty, which being a 98 and the amount of driving it seems you do, I don't imagine it is, then what you do under the hood will not matter in that regard.

What someone else said, about your tires is the only concern at this point. Generally, the governor is set almost exactly to what your tires are speed rated for. The concern with this isn't necessarily that you might pop a tire doing 100 because they're only rated for 98, but also insurance. If you blow out a wheel doing 110 because your tires were rated for 95 and you kill someone, not only are you responsible but your insurance is going to void your policy and you'll probably be sued and face jail time depending on the situation.

I'm tuned and my gov is lifted to 160mph, but I've also got performance tires to go with that, my stock tires were only rated for 115mph. Finding m/s tires rated beyond 100 might be an expensive venture.

Your vette is aero drag limited to 190. There is no "functional" speed limiter. On my C5, the factory speed limiter is 255 mph. It is therefore not functional because you will never get there witout 1200 hp. You can however change it from 0-255 if you want your kid to drive it and top out at 60.

I got a chip for my 93 Tahoe/Blazer 4x4 (they still use a chip) and had them custom remove the speed limiter of 9X mph (stock) and now I can do about 115. Made me sign and fax them a waiver

Getting a programmer like the Diablosports Predator or Hyperwhatever will work too. I have the Predator for removing the skipshift and adding fuel for my bolt ons and no rear O2s. Plus its a code reader for many cars.

X2. I was going to get one for my 98 and decided not to after I found out that you need to use 93 octane gas to get the benefits from the retune. Also helps to change the thermostat to a colder one. The 1 vehicle thing is also a deal breaker for me.

My 98 is limited at 99 not 93. did yours come with 245's or 265's tires? That may be the difference but I dont know.

Actually the software on the C6 Coupe and Convertible is set to 190, not that setting it higher will make a difference because of the limitations you described above. I don't need to set it any higher even if it could go faster, mine has a built in limiter. It's called fear!!!
