Thumbs up Nethercutt Car Museum. Excellent & Free!

If you happen to live in Southern California, or are passing by, the Nethercutt museum is an excellent place to stop by to look at hundreds of meticulously preserved and restored vehicles. There is also a functional art section which has a very nice musical instrument tour. Take a trip back in time to see some amazing cars, many worth millions now. Every car is fully functional, registered, and has the key in the ignition ready to run. The museum is free but you have to call in for reservations weeks in advance. It is located in Sylmar, CA, which is near Burbank / Los Angeles. Below are a couple photos I took today. I also got to play on the world's most expensive piano. It was only one note, but hey, how many people can say that?!

That one is a 1933 Duesenberg. Cost new was $20,000 which is equivalent to about $350,000 in today's dollars. It was the most expensive car in the world at the time it was built. It has a current estimated value of $20,000,000. And yes, the ignition key was in the ignition when I looked at it and took a couple photos. It is gorgeous.

Wow, today I played the world's most expensive piano and got to touch and look inside the world's most expensive car in 1933. At $20,000,000 I don't know how many other car's are worth more today!

Beautiful cars!!! I need to stop by there one of these days.

If you like that place, then I recommend 3 others:

    1. Muscle car museum in Sevierville, Tennessee. Its a few bucks to see, but worth it.

    2. Jack Roush's personal collection/museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

    3. And the best... the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. This place is huge, founded by Henry Ford and Thomas Edison to preserve the artifacts of the industrial revolution. Everything from cars to trains to early washing machines. Some really unusual items, such as the largest train engine in the world and Ronald Reagan's presidential limo.

Not sure. There is one current model they make which sells new for $1.2 million. However, the one at the Nethercutt is said to be the most expensive and largest concert piano ever made by Bosendorfer. Let's just I won't be replacing my Boston grand piano for a Bosendorfer any time soon!

I'm going to be passing near Michigan this year during vacation. I'll see if we can squeeze in a detour to Dearborn to go to the Ford museum. Love old mechanical stuff.

This thread is awesome. I want to play that piano!

That fire truck looks really familiar... I'm trying to remember where I was that I saw some old steam-engine-powered automobiles...

Try to pick up a bigger keyboard on craigslist (or look for a free piano if you don't mind having it tuned when you get it). 88 keys will get annoying after a short time.

Excellent suggestion for Char1iebrown. You can get great deals on keyboards and pianos on CraigsList. My son is the piano guy in our house. He has purchased a few keyboards on CraigsList.
