Steering wheel replacements?

Once I get my car back from the repair shop I'm planning on performing a long due overhaul of my audio system. What does this have to do with my steering wheel? Well, my car currently lacks steering wheel audio controls, and I would like to add that functionality to my car. I've done quite a bit of searching, and I couldn't find any aftermarket solution. What I'd like to do is get an OEM steering wheel from a newer model of my car that includes the steering wheel audio controls, and replace my existing steering wheel with it. I know where to find the part, but before I spend the money on it, does anyone know if this would even work? Thanks.
