    Default Whistler 1660 Or Bel Express936

    At my local pawnshop I am thinking of buying a Whistler 1660 or a Bel Express 936. I know that these are older models but I can't afford a V1. I read the epinions review but thats it. Were there any types of tests conducted with these units, and/or does anyone have any experience with them?

    I have a Bel Express Li that is still working fine but could be better rangewise.
    I am seriously considering the Bel Vector 940. The Bel brand will probably be more quiet than the whistlers. There are alot of Whistler Pro 78 fans but I still think the Bel is a better option. If I can get 100 ft more range Its worth it. Every second counts when you need to slow it down before the cop makes his entrance.

    I know that gadgets are cool, but in my opinion, if you can't afford a decent RD you really can't afford to speed. $150 price range is pretty much the bottom line of anything I would trust at all.

    I totally agree what Zigbuzz said,u better buy bel instead of Whistler.There are many Pro 78 die hard fans here,the opinion they give u is not objective.They all say it is good because they own one and they don't want to face they bought a bad RD,always give excuse for themself and say it is a good a RD.They are living in thier DREAM.My opinion is corba and whistler is the same grade RD.

    And your opinion is worthless since you know absolutely nothing about radar and laser detection and the physics involved with each. We have tried incessantly to try to educate you, but it turns out that you are not intelligent enough to learn what we have tried to teach you.

    The truth is that the Pro-78 and the Bel 940 are both excellent budget RDs, but joseph12 here thought the Pro-78 was supposed to defy the laws of physics. It turns out that laws of physics overrule joseph12's unreasonable expectations of a budget RD.

    The answer to the OP: Neither.

    Several good entry level detectors were mentioned here, and I think that's the lowest you should consider going (XTR-690/Pro-78, Bel Vector 940, 955). Any lower and you are getting subpar, incomplete protection and probably a ticket in the near future.

    Bel 936 sensitivity:

    X=108.2
    K=106.3
    Ka=103.0 (average of three bands)

    Owned one, used it for years, not bad, not awesome either.

    Whistler 1660 sensitivity:

    X=103.3
    K=100.9
    Ka=91.8 (average of three bands)

    Never owned one, can't believe it would be worth owning given it's Ka sensitivity.
