Hello, I'm a new user, i'm from Spain but i spend all the summers in the States with my family. I knew about radar detectors many years ago but i didn't used them until now. Last summer i bought a couple of detectors (one for me and one for mi dad) to try them in Spain. They were an ESCORT X50 and a BEL RX65. They seemed to be the best in the Speedzones tests. But results were not as i expected. So i asked my cousin there in the states to buy for me a BEL RX75 and a BEL 975R. So I got my 975R and my RX75 a month ago. And i started the tests.

I drive a Ford Focus SVT and my dad drives a Ford Mondeo GT (Ford Contour in the States) so we love speeding. Since las year the number of radar speed traps in Spain has increased a lot so it's very necessary for us to use one.

After testing all these radar detectors here in Spain:


ESCORT X50
BEL RX65
BEL 975R
BEL RX75


against these speed traps:


Multanova 6F (Ka based radar 34,3 GHz)
Multanova Multabox (Ka based radar 34,3 GHz)



I can determine that the BEL 975R is the most effective radar detector. It is so because you can set the narrow Ka 34,3 instead of the whole Superwide Ka band. Whenever you discard the rest of the Ka band and just focus on a narrow range the 975R achieves very long detection distances.



I don't know why but when you deactivate the SuperWide Ka and leave ON just the narrow Ka 34,3 detection distances increase up to 250 meters (800 feet) from the 150 feet achieved when the Superwide is ON. RX75 is a little worst (100 feet) RX65 and X50 are a little better (300 feet)



I guess the reason is on the Ka band wideness. Because the detector must scan a very wide frecuencies range it is less effective, but when it only scan a smaller range it becomes more sensitive to this kind of signals.



Speed traps work with very low power here in Spain so it's more difficult to detect them. In France they have K based radar speed traps and are much more detectable as someone have checked out so the RX65 or the X50 work very very nicely. Against Multanova 6F the X50, RX65 and the RX75 are not always enough, if you go too fast you'll get a ticket. That doesn't seem to happen if you have a 975R.



Today I dind't get a ticket thank to the 975R. I were driving on a fast-way (speed limit 55mph) my speed was about 100mph so i had enough time and space to slow down to 55mph. But i know that a X50 would have only reduced the ticket cost because it would have detected the trap too late.


So, after knowing this I'd like to know if there is or if there would be any way to re-program the RX75, RX65 and X50 to split the Ka band as the 975R does. I love my RX75 and I'd like to use it instead of the 975R but id like it to be as effective as the 975R as well. Also the RX65 and the X50 because now my dad uses the RX65 and my girlfriend uses the X50...

As in Holland is the Bel 975 the best choice, since here on the highways they also use the Multanova.

In the MultaBox is also the same radar as a mobile post. I myself was once caught in Spain by a Citroën XM with the Multanova build into the front bumper. They told me that they give tickets when you cross 20 km/u to much So 140 on the highway is perfectly ok. Don't how that is right now.

I have the V1 (v1.8if not mistaken) and currently I spend most of my time in Bulgaria.

Over here almost all the radar guns work at X-band (same as in the USA not the 9GHz one)...but they did introduce some new radar guns which all the time work at instant-on mode. Couple of times I saw cars just of front of me getting pulled over and V1 didnt sound at all....another fews times when I saw coups with radar I parkened near by to see of the V1 will go off...but same resoult nothing....The question here is how norrow the beam can be...and is there such thing as X-band POP mode.

Couple of times I did detect these instan-on shots...usually the V1 gives me an very early detection, but I am worried about these new radar guns here.

Will it help if I swich-off the K and the KA band as they are not used here, in order V1 to scan just the X-Band...or that is not the case.

Any comments will be appreciated.

KGB, you may be getting hit with Ku band which is used quite a bit in Europe. Your V1 can run Ku if you turn it on. The Valentine site has instructions on how to do this.

Here in Australia, I am not currently using an RD. The fines here for RD use are crippling and the cops here have Stalcars (Spectres) I too an sweating on a 'quiet' detector. I have several RDs including a V1 (1.7 no laser) and a Solo S2 as well as some others.
Here the cops use K band stationary and mobile as well as Lidar. The speed cameras (dozens of 'em) are inductive loop triggered. The cops do occasionaly set up a Gatso camera radar (K band) in a car. X band is no longer approved in Ausd, so by turning it off there is a good reduction in false alarms.
In Perth they have Multanova Ka cameras, and in Qld they have Ka mobile sets in cars, so I guess Ka is on the way in.
I wil bw in thw US late in May, so I hope someone has a spectre solution by then.

I come from Spain as well as Radarbrigade.
In my country Ka band is used mainly, but lidar are growing up.
There is another RD called the italian Autovelox 105 that is indetectable.

Fortunately, we do not have RDD for the moment.

The best detectors are the Bel 966R/660R, The Bel 975R, The Old Stinger Ventura for concealled units and the expensive RX75.

The remote units mainly sold are the x50 and RX65, followed by the the Bell Target Euro 550. They have the same performance.

There are other European devices such as the Quintezz that also works correct.

For laser jammers, blinder, lidatek are the best brands.

We are trying to improve our radar detection range.
I've purchased several units of the Remote + and I expect improve the range.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about the 'Brand X', the DSI computer and so on.

What are the fines in Spain for using one if it is banned...and chance of cop knowing that you are suing a RD

In Spain is illegal the use of a detector device, but it's not illegal to have one.

The fine is 91€

There is no RDD for the moment, but if they discover, they can take it.
