Default Do you think GOL should report Capture range in addition to alert distance?

I think it would be cool if you guys included the capture range with the alert distance. example..

V1 alert distance from gun 2112 ft, vehicle speed captured at 317 feet.

Including capture distance allows the user to see how many feet of warning their unit gives before being owned in each test.

What do you guys think? No need for a poll, just would like others feedback.

Yes. I have always wondered that. So what if I'm getting 1/2 a mile range if I'm being captured? It would be a lot more work. Do for one run, and assume it's constant, that would cut the data compilation down. Honestly, how much variation can there be between runs?

I feel the capture range would be a constant once the course is set up and it is first calculated. Only the alert distance each run would be different. I feel it would be super easy using the laser guns and 2 way radios to calculate capture distance.

I'm thinking RADAR only. LIDAR not so much. Mainly because it's either JTG or PT. I don't care if it jammed for 1200 feet or w/e. There was still a PT, in a short range ambush attack you're effed if there are PT's at lower distances.

Yes Radar only. Laser guns would be used for taking measurements only.

A test like this would be great. I wonder why no one tested capture range in the past.

Car and Driver tested capture range many years ago. Prof. Jim has a copy of that somewhere. I think it would be beneficial to do that. It should be done for K band and Ka band as you will see some differences.

I would really like to see the capture range for the newer low powered K band radars like the Falcon HR and the Stalker Patrol!

Heck yea! Especially given many sources say the 'clock' is done at 1/4 mile or less, although I personally believe that while most clocks are done at under 1,000 feet, the upper max is closer to 1/2 to 3/4 with the more advanced systems on more open roads. Supposedly even older X and K band guns can lock a speed up to a mile away. I support this theory with many people, who are reputable individuals, claiming their ticketed speed was ridiculously wrong. The distance inaccuracy is pretty well supported and these people were not in areas with known POP use at that time. I imagine beyond 500-1,000 feet that any QT type of radar is rarely, if ever, used. But I could be completely wrong. If knowledge is power, than your idea is golden. Knowing the limitations of not just the radar detector, but the radar itself is a great way to further help aware drivers maintain situational awareness. We all know the limitations of LIDAR, but the limitations of radar is a less covered topic.

I know of some empty roads in the middle of Nevada that would work for pure range testing. Straight, unobstructed. Hot, dusty, tumbleweeds.

No Doubt about it, I think I know exactly some of the locations you are talking about
