Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out last Saturday to participate in the Can/Am Jammerfest. It STILL took all day, but we learned quite a bit about our respective setups!!!

After many hours of disseminating all the data, here it is in all its glory:



Veil Guy's results are posted as so: ZR4/M37.

There were a few people who were not able to stay all day (jamminx and chriskohtc). I did not bother posting the rear results for Veil Guy because they were not good at all - even by his admission. We were clocking him at ALL distances with each gun.

With regards to Veil Guy, we started our testing with the SpeedLaser R. After a few bad readings, he put a couple of Veiled plate covers on his car. The results posted were the result of having the 2 plate covers on his Beemer.

As well, the SpeedLaser R got JA-3 codes almost immediately with all jammers. Even DANDELIONS threw a JA-3 code!

We noticed that during the course of testing, spankyaf was getting outrageously high PT's in front. We tried plate covers with Veil on them, as well as having him crouch down more. That brought his numbers down considerably.

Thanks Vic for all your hard work. In addition to Dandelions throwing the JA 3 code on the LA R, I shot approximately 8 vehicles that weren't part of our group. They happened to be passing by when I had the LA R in my hand. Each vehicle I shot with the LA R, I was able to get the JA 3 code from those cars / trucks as well. I feel more confident that the LA R falses that code A LOT!!!! Forgot to mention, the JA-3 showed up a lot after the LA R had a few hours of use on it first.

Great stuff guys this is what it is all about, unbiased testing at its best. We need more enthusiasts taking the time and money to perform tests like this!

Great job guys, as always, and what a fun day it was. Great seeing some of y'all again!

I am recalling that not one laser jammer was able to detect and jam Laser Atlanta's new stealth mode and only a couple of detectors that were there were even able to detect it, if only briefly.

But, I am also pleased that Veil knocked about ~40-60 percent off its range, if I recall correctly.

This continues to reinforce my notion that as more and more of these guns come up with "exotic" ways to defeat active laser jammers, that Veil will do its job regardless of their algorithms and pulse rates, since we are absorbing their pulses (not trying to actively interfere with them as jammers do).

If I recall the numbers correctly, Spankyaf's cycle dropped from ~800s' PTs with his LI to about ~400s' PT with what was effectively his headlights and then, I believe, down to low ~200s' PT with tape off side directional indicators (simulating Veil) followed by low 100s' PT when crouching and obscuring his silver jacket.

IMO, anything under ~200-250' at decent speed is effectively JTG, so I feel mission accomplished. Keep in mind, 60mph equates to about 88 feet per second and 78mph approximately 114 fps.

Perhaps, Vic, you have those numbers. In any event, I was very surprised to see such high PTs with a jammer only (especially an LI) on just a motorcycle.

The Blinders appear to do quite a bit better than the older M20's that I had on my Bimmer, but for all of the knocking the ZR4 gets, I was quite pleased with its results as well (both jammers run with Veil, of course). Especially since my metallic silver Bimmer presents a difficult mounting challenge for any laser jammer as the heads have to be mounted low.

Also, with respect to the Blinders, the rear head seemed to have some "issues," sometimes not detecting or alerting at all, especially with the LTI 100LR. Something, I believe, is not right. In my distant memory, I believed, my older Blinders struggled with this same kind of LTI gun, but again in this case, it appeared to only be the single rear head.

Now that I've got several sets of results from two different testing groups and testing conditions, I am going to add the LIs into the mix (since they settled with Blinder). Can't wait to see how they do on my vehicle. I was impressed with their handling and alerting nature (seems to be quite an improvement over the Blinders).

Had a h3ll of an experience on the way on with NYSP. But that's another story.

...Always a learning experience at these events! And there were some REALLY nice cars there.

JTG = Jam To Gun
JFG = Jam From Gun
JTF = Means nothing, but I don't see any JTFs anywhere
