Default The tables are turned on K-Band V1 vs RX65

A short while ago I posted a test on Ka-Band @35.5GHz against a parked patrol unit. The RX65 bested the V1 by 20% to 25% in that review.

Tonite along a different portion of my route, I came upon the home of an LEO who had parked his patrol car in his driveway, about 100ft from the roadbed and firing straight across it. This town uses Kustom K-Band dash mounted units, but I know they budgeted in a recent town meeting for a new cruiser, so Ka may be coming as a new toy for them.

As before, the V1 and RX65 are mounted high on either side of my rear view mirror. The V1 is in "A"ll bogey mode and factory default, while the RX65 is set to HWY, Ka=USA, POP=on. This is also in a rural area with lots of trees and widely spaced houses, so scatter gets absorbed quickly.

I made a couple of runs each direction ,and the results were pretty consistent. Coming from the north one rises up a hill from a flat portion of the road to the detecton area, which is flat and straight. The rise is steep and about a 45ft change in altitude. The V1 alerted right at the top of the hill as the car came level.

Overall range is about 900ft from the north and 1100ft from the south. The V1 alerted about 200ft sooner from the north, which may have been longer if the hill was not there, and 250ft sooner from the south.

This figures to a 20% to 25% range advantage on K-Band for the V1 over the RX65, just the opposite of the Ka-Band 35.5GHz results. Talk about frustrating! Which unit to keep?

Keep both, I've got them both, and find sometimes the 65 is better than the V1,sometimes the V1 is better than the 65, and that's on both k & ka bands.

Not all to surpriseing, pretty much the same results GOL and other users have reported. Even the lowest performer of the "Big 3" K band rage is more than enough to warn of a trap ahead. But then you have Ka and Laser. The only real compelling factor going for the Bel/Escort is that they delevery the same performance for cheaper. A bit less "falsing". But you already the V1, so it comes down to personal preference. Which would you rather have. Oh yeah another thing, V1 customer support forever.

Ka performance is pretty good on the RX65 and X50. The V1 on Ka well............not sure yet since in my area K band dominates. I see very little Ka action nothing to get too excited over

I know people frequently disregard this because of convenience etc, but I'm going to mention it again: it isn't a good idea to test performance by running two units at the same time in the same vehicle....

I was under the assumption he made multiple runs? Oh well.

Thanks, but I never run both, whether on the road or testing. The data is with only one unit on at a time. It is possible I have an RX65 that is Hot at 35.5GHz or a V1 that is Cold there, but from my perusing of others results, there seems to be a trend. The K-Band results match my on the road experiences, and some testing against K-Band door openers.

The next time I find a Ka source(hopefully 35.5GHz), I'm going to make 10 runs against it with the V1. For now, I suspect a software problem because of the poor consistency. My next test may bear that out.

You right Jim even if they dont seem to interf with each other they do best way to really test is have one radar detector at 1 time trun on even haveing them trun off it still can effect the other one dont even have 2 in the car at the same time
