Next time ask the "dude" for whatever qualifications he carries to be a parking lot traffic cop. Badge? Employee uniform or ID? If he doesn't have any of the above, then you can tell him to go (bleep) himself as far as you're concerned. And if you ever see him there again, make sure not to stop.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Seems you get those a lot in shopping centers. Stop for everyone except those coming in. I always try to look at the other lanes to see if they have a stop sign before going.

Talking about shopping centers and stop signs, there's a Walmart down the road whose entrance had to have been designed by an idiot. Pic:

The red are stop signs, and blue is the direction of travel. I guess some people don't realize you don't have to stop, or they take their sweet ass time turning on either of the blue arrows. The result -> 2-3 cars go, and then everyone gets backed up as the initial car hits "decision" time. So, when the arrow (which sometimes doesn't last long at all) turns red, you have a tail of cars still blocking opposing traffic. Makes for fun times.

Yeah, I think the same system is employed in Austin, TX. Heh, I remember in Governor's mall in Tallahassee, FL--there's even a sign that says "do NOT stop" at the "implied stop sign" location.

I've been through the drivers handbook three times this evening and have yet to find an implied stop sign. Anybody heard of this?
Have I heard of morons who don't know how to drive? Unfortunately I have - all too frequently.

The configuration you describe is common at strip malls - traffic coming into the parking lot often does not have a stop sign, perhaps to prevent traffic entering the mall from backing up onto the main road. Most people are idiots and just assume it's a 4-way stop without bothering to actually check. Although this guy who chased you down is in an idiocy class all by himself.

I hope you laughed in his face and told him to **** off.

Yep, that's the other side of this idiotic coin. I've been stopped at one of those stop signs, waiting for numb nuts who doesn't have a stop sign to pass by so I can proceed, but the moron just stops there as if he had a stop sign, too. This just creates needless delay for everyone as people try to figure out if the guy who is supposed to have the right-of-way is going to continue to yield it or whether he's going to suddenly realize his mistake and dart out into the intersection.

The saddest part is if you collide with that guy, you will be found at fault because you had a stop sign but failed to yield.

If it is clearly marked as a 3 way stop, there is no implication that you have to stop if you don't have the sign. Right down the street is a 2 way stop. Two directions don't stop and the other two do.
