I said, "You and I both know most officers dislike detectors, and I feel the contact will usually go better without it." He chuckled and said, "Both you and I want a pleasant contact. Which one do you have?"

I said, "I have an Escort 8500 x50." I then showed it to him and said, "I even visit RadarDetector.net forums to learn more about it." He smiled and said, "You need to watch out for even 1 dot with Ka because by the time you see it, I am very close regardless of your detector." I chuckled.

He went to his car and came back in about 3 minutes and said, "I was just checking and it seems all your paperwork is in order. I too visit those forums, and since nothing you did was unsafe for the conditions, I am going to let you off with a warning."

If you're going to take the detector down, take the suction cups off too. A mount still on the windshield is still going to give the RD away.

Interesting that he knew it was a Belscort mount.

It would have been funny if he recommended a V1 or a Redline.
