This wouldn't be a problem if we didn't have such an aversion to using yield signs where they're appropriate. You can safely cruise through a lot of stop signs, but they don't look any different than the ones that are actually serious.

I don't know this for sure but from the looks of the sensors (I found a picture of one of these cameras on another website) there's two sensors - one right before the stop line and one right after. It looks like it would determine your speed between the two sensors - so you'd have to maintain a speed of 7mph or higher going through the sensors, or speed up above 7mph right as you hit the stop line. There's only about a 4 foot distance between the two, maybe less, so it wouldn't be affected by the approach I don't think. The biggest problem would be people who don't stop until after the stop line - people who stop before it shouldn't be affected unless they floor it after stopping.

I'm not a fan of automated cameras at all but...it sounds like the woman mentioned in the article has a little bit of an issue with stop signs They're only installed at 7 locations right now and she's gotten 4 tickets for it in the past month and a half? Oh well . . .

Aside from having to tear up the road, I don't understand why an idea like this wasn't created and used 10 years ago. It's a basic concept with just two sensors and uses distance over time formula, so it's nothing new when it comes to technology. It could be used for red lights, stop signs, speed in general, etc. and either automated or all from a remote location - have 20 sensors going down the road, all marked by a number and transmit data wirelessly - an officer could sit 500 feet down the street and determine a speed without any notice whatsoever. It actually sounds like something PA would implement so long as local police still can't use radar in 5 years

If these have been around for 18 months, shouldn't there have been news articles about them over a year ago? All of the articles that I see are from the last month or so.
