Default Replacement Speaker(louder) in X50 - Anyone tried this yet?

    Hey guys/gals,

I was wondering if anyone has put a replacement speaker in their X50 yet. The overall sound(loudness) is weak. Matter of fact, it's the weakest speaker i've ever experienced on a radar detector.

I replaced the speaker in my Bel 985 months ago, and it's unbelievably strong, to the point it's deafening if cranked all the way. I'm tempted to open the case of my X50 to inspect the stock speaker and surroundings. I'd love to replace it with a spare i have for the 985 - i bought 4 speakers, 2 different brands.

    Any opinions?

Can't say about replacing the internal one, but Roy sells an external amplified speaker for $29 that should be quite loud.

If u want as well, you can if u have the capability hook your detector up to an AUX input of your head unit.
If its one of those days thats what i will do
but the X50 is a little quiet

Different vehicles can have a crazy effect on the percieved alert volume. I ran my RX65 all the way up in my 98 Escort, but if I did that in a 2000 Mercury Sable, it was just deafening.

One thing to check, there is a "loud/standard" setting in the menu, make sure it's on loud.

i find it hard to think how replacing the speaker would make it more louder with out extra amplification :?:

Yeah make sure that in your settings you have it set to Loud as opposed to Standard..makes a bit of difference. I can't imagine having an external speaker, it's loud as I would ever need. When I blast my music I have it on Loud and full volume and I can still hear it well above the music.

Efficiency. Makes all the difference. I have a non-amplified external speaker for my RX65 that just plain hurts on max volume.
