Default mouting and the tint strip

i drive a dodge intrepid and i was wondering if anyone knows if the tint strip will affect performance on the x50??? currently it under the tint strip in the upper left hand corner, but i was thinking of moving it to just above the rear view mirror but then that would put it directly in the middle of the factory tint strip. suggestions keep it where its at or move it to about the rvm.??????

Metallic tint affects your RD to an extreme. Normal tint has hardly any affect with radar detection but it will drop your laser detection.

I would mount your RD just below your rearview mirror. That way it would have a clear line of site to the front and to the rear but still be high.
Personally I would never mount a detector on a tint strip because I would always have this gut feeling I was loosing radar performance.

Try lifting up your rearview mirror as high as possible then tilt the mirror to where you can see. This will give you more height for the mounting position.

i have my v1 right behind the tint, well half and half, and have had no difference in radar performace than if it was positioned dead center on the windshield. i have tested this against dedicated speed signs. i also get 1.8 miles on Ka where it is behind the tint.

I was just messin with you. I just thought that the tint may have a small affect on the radar performance. I know it looks better above the mirror.

The problem is with my truck if I put my RD above the mirror it doesn't have a sight out the back window because the window is lower than the front glass

ah that sucks man. yeah believe me..i tried every possition out there. they were pretty much the same..maybe a .1 mile difference between em all. so i decided to just go ahead and mount where it was behind the tint since it was stealth.

so you too tried the left hand corner????????/// i have only seen a few like that... when i went to escort the other day to get my smartcord direct wire the lady said as long as it has a good view of the road ahead and behind no matter where its at you will have perfect reception no matter what.... seemed a little to good to be true sounding but to me i think there is a difference from center position to left side position....

well it does have a bi-directional antenna allowing it to recieve signals 360 degrees, but it should be mounted with a clear view front and back, preferably in the center mounted high.
