Escort X50 Install ( Pics )

Here's a few pics of my x50 hardwire (they are not the best quality.)

That's a nice install !!!! Looks very professional... That's what I would like to do but instead of using the Suction Cups, use a Visor Clip and Clip into the ceiling headboard. I wish it didn't point down so much or that's the install I def would have done. I am assuming you used the suction cups to mount below the tint. I didn't think of that until I saw your Photos, good idea.....

My buddy did a ceiling mount with his V1 - didn't use a visor clip. he used some plastic wires and tied it up tight so it was level, worked really well, very concealed.

Well, it seems I'm having a little issue with this mount. I used a double sided adhesive Pad to mount the SmartBox and it just won't hold. The Small SmartBox keeps coming unattached from the adhesive because of those vent looking like things on the SmartBox. I was looking for something that wouldn't be permanent so I could use a Hairdryer to heat the glue and remove when I decided to sell the car someday. I've posted Pics of the unit losing hold on this post. I've tried Velcro too and the same thing happens when the Car heats up. I may just remove the SmartBox from it's current location and mount it in the Blank space right above the radio. I have posted pics of the location. I would need to use some type of tool to cut the hole. The plastic rectangle piece cost $ 18.00 so I would just buy another one and snap it into place when I sell the car. What do you guys think? Any suggestions for a stronger adhesive pad or should I try to mount it in that new location?

Good Idea!!! I think a dremel tool with a small round sandpaper bit would be right for this job. Thanks again

As promised I'm now posting my Install pics. It's not as unique as other installs but hopefully will help some people out. The second pictures looks like the detector isn't straight but it is. The cabin of most German cars curve to the driver.

A few people have stated that mounting high is a better way to go so I'm going to move my x50 to the visor. I've honestly never been hit with laser in Charlotte so I feel moving it to the visor won't be that bad and as a result I'll get better radar performance. I'll just break down for a shifter later on to handle laser. Besides once your hit with laser, there is nothing you can really do about it except pray. Having a shifter would be the better advantage anyways. I have never trusted suction cups for high mounts for the risk of the detector falling from several feet and breaking. So we're going to go with the visor clip and mount either to the Visor or the ceiling gap. I would mount infront or ontop of the mirror but there isn't enough room for the detector. The issue here is the detector is going to want to point down toward the hood. Any idea how to solve this problem? I've included some photos that show the angles of the visor and the ceiling. Also, you'll see red dots where I would like to mount. Please add comments and helpful advice... thanks

Humm.... Well, where I have it now is the only place it will mount completely straight. I have tried moving it up the windshield a bit but it seems to want to aim either to the right or left. As far as being sorry, I am assuming your referring to laser correct? If so, yep that's the huge compromise. That's why I was thinking shifter. The Shifter will alert me if I am confronted by a laser attack, this way I get the best of both areas Radar and Laser. Plus, I'll be shifting as well

No I am not talking about just laser I am talking about radar as well.

Its best to put any detector in the mid of the Windshield this way you will have the best radar and laser range.

The ZR3 is great I sure wish I had one.

Same here. It will be awhile, they're expensive.
