    Default Doubt about my 8500!!!

I don't know what happened, I found my 8500 is not working!!!
the story is like this: I drove on highway using my 8500 last week, everything looks good. I was driving around 140-180km/h, but suddenly I found there was a Canada RCMP Police Patrol pulled over a car, however, my 8500 even didn't have any reaction on the RCMP patrol. this was the first time, I told myself that maybe officer turned the radar off or he was using Laser Guy at that moment, so there wasn't any reaction on my 8500. I kept driving, later, I found 3-5 RCPM patrol parked at roadside and control the traffic. However, my 8500 didn't have any reaction at all! what's wrong with it? later, I slowed down, because I counldn't believe my 8500 anymore. but when I came back to town, there was speed reminder on highway which was K Band, my 8500 detected that about 4 miles before that. it doubted me more! why there was no reaction on RCMP patrol but very efficient reaction on K Band speed reminder?
the other story happened yesterday, I was driving on highway, there was a RCMP patrol hided at the side lane, heading the coming traffics, when I saw that patrol, it pulled over one guy, when I drove by, my 8500 still didn't have any reaction. I didn't give up, I made U-turn and come back to try again, it still didn't work. what the F it is? (X Band works well in city, K band can be detected if I try it in front of the Automatic Door)
Is it my 8500's problem or Canada RCMP upgrade there equipment? when I first bought my 8500 in Feb this year, my 8500 helped me a lot on highway and detected Ka Band on patrol car.
Can anybody help me out? thanks a lot!

Is it just an 8500 or is it the X50? I don't know man, it seems like a coincidence that they all had their radar/laser off. I wouldn't think that them upgrading their stuff would have an affect on your RD. As stupid as it sounds, it was getting power and it was turned on correct? If it still has a warranty, you will probably have to send it to Escort.

Are the LEO's running Ka band radar guns? There was also another guy that told us his horrible story about getting busted using his brand new X50. It never alerted to Ka band and he was hit. So...this could be a possibility. DON'T SPEED until you know it can alert on Ka band. Keep running around at the PSL and find LEO's if you see 5-7 and there is no alert at all. You have a problem. Keep us posted and we will help you out

How did it not detect Ka band? He must've had Ka disabled for some reason?

No he didn't have Ka disabled. It was F'd up. Perhaps it wasn't detecting any band at all but I know he said the LEO was running a Ka band radar gun. This was awhile back.

Well that would suck big time. At least he was still able to get a new one or get that one repaired since you said it was brand new. But that's worse than no RD because you're thinking you have detection but then find out that you have none.

    InstantOn radar OR Laser

As far as the officers directing traffic, did you see any radar equipment on the dash, do all officers have radar units, I know not all officers in my city have radar, perhaps they did not have any equipment.

If your detector continues to alert to other known sources, in its regular way, then I would not suspect anything at the moment, you were just spooked that the RD is NOT a cop detector it only detects when radar is ON, and can barely sufficently warn to laser scatter if at all, not to mention laser would have been in the off position unless you seethe officer activly targeting vehicles.

But it would be advisable none the less and take it easy on the speeding untill you can confirm what the officers are using and how they are using (thats funny how that came out).

I'm pretty sure that all RCMP patrol have radar equipment, because I saw that there's radar thing on the dash and at the back, but my detector did react at all. my detector is 8500, not X50. I'll try more times in front of patrol car. but i'm pretty sure that I detected RCMP on Ka Band before. on the other hand, I don't know what equipment are RCMPs using now. Personally, I think Canada is not as rich as U.S., and it's not legal to use RD, so I think there's no point for RCMP to get advanced equipment to hide from RD. Sigh......

Here in Charlotte, NC we have the Charlotte Motor Speedway and State Troopers are everywhere when there is a race. The Troopers park their cars on the side of the road or in the middle of the medium. Pretty much they either sit in their cars or help direct traffic. I have noticed that most ( not all ) troopers have radar in the cars at this event. For some reason or another they have then turned off. Seems to me this is the perfect time to nail people from out of state unfamiliar with our roads and posted speed here in Charlotte. Point being a lot of LEO's have radar in their car but it's not running. Like the others said, I wouldn't worry to much at this time but I would keep an eye on your detector. Hopefully you'll get hit with KA soon to ease your mind that your detector is working properly.

Yeah, I've noticed that in Woodstock too. I would guess almost all of the McHenry County LEO's have radar guns, but almost all of them I've run into have them turned off. However, most of the Woodstock Police do have their's turned on. I don't see the point of turning it off. Why not just keep them on all the time, and nail unexpecting people? Well, I guess it's because most of the LEO's are lazy.
