Upgrading is a great thing! But Belscort and Valentine are businesses. They need to justify the additional manufacturing cost plus support costs by weighing them against the benifits.

If only a few users ever use the usb upgrade, and they aren't willing to pay a premium for the feature, then they won't do it. Thats all I'm saying. I doubt there is a business case to be made for it.

Sure I'd love to upgrade my detector myself, heck I'd be the first to do it if I could.

I can see a very strong business case for it. Moving up to a current technology platform can have advantages not only for the end consumer but also for the manufacturer. First, for the consumer, it is a very attractive selling point/advantage. It would weigh very heavily on my purchasing decision if one detector had user updating and the other didn't (a consideration almost as strong as directional arrows, from my perspective). As a consumer, it would save me money and time. I wouldn't have to lose my detector for days/weeks for routine updates. If it's true that these devices routinely fall out of tune, then the manufacturer would need to continue offering that service for a fee (That's reasonable, I suppose).

On the side of the manufacturer, updating to a current technology platform would require redesign and reworking of manufacturing process, but it may simplify manufacture and programming. It might also provide a faster way for doing "routine tuning."

It could be made into a big selling point if you were the first to market with the thing..

I think I could go on and on. It's a good thing to do. It would be win-win. You watch and see. If any of the players cares to get off of their duffs, the first-to-market with this will see an advantage.

Or they could do what escort does and claim to be software upgradeable, but never offer any upgrades to existing users.

Hmmm. Yeah, I guess they should just start advertising a "virtual" USB connection to do the "virtual" upgrades. If you just pretend hard enough, you're X50 will upgrade. Or maybe not. Part of me just thinks these guys are sitting on their laurels... satisfied with 'good enough.'

ummm......... Ill admit I was a victim of that very notion ops: ops: , thats why I got the X50 instead of the clearanced for $125 7500S at Best Buy, because the guy said that it is upgradable in the future, but another good reason is that the X50 performed WAY better than that 7500 any day

    Default i agree

i agree with radartom they would stand to benifit big time the could us it as a sales incentive another thing that v1 could place on its box to defeat belscorts burocrocy of expensive upgrades and the average user being then able to upgrade... This is why i can see v1 being the first to step up to the plate as they could stand to benifit the most from this type of sales addition to there already awsome product...

I doubt any of us are going to boycott our detectors for a year, so I doubt escort or vr will do anything to become modern. I think vr has the upperhand right now, they take care of the customer, which helps their small name get around without advertising. If I didnt hear as much good about vr, I wouldnt have a v1, because they dont seem as established as belscort.<off subject lol.

Not saying I would not upgrade, I'm just saying I doubt there is enough demand from more than just a handful of people.
X3. I am a RD nerd. Love the new rev. But my RX65 4.5 is too good to be true so I am stickin with it
