X50 Connection Module

I'm curious to hear if anyone has worn out their X50 Power Connection Module by unpluging it constantly. I have a high mount and take the detector down everytime I get out of the car. I do not want to leave the detector up 1 being the detector may be stolen or bake in the direct Sun light and 2nd The suction cups may release and the detector will fall. I would like to use a visor clip but it point towards the hood. Has Anyone ever had an issue from unplugging it all the time?

RJ-11 connections (which all the top 3 use) have been known to wear out overtime, however, they are not a hard fix (persay), or much at all to replace (when you consider leaving it on the windsheild in the heat, or for theives could cost a whole boat load).

I say treat the RJ-11 ends nice, try not to rip on them or tug on the wire and it should last a suprisingly long time... and IF the time comes to replace it, chalk up the few bucks... its much less then having a theif take the X50 as a whole on you.

I had one for about a year and a half in my last car, never broke one. Got a different smartcord in this car, no sign of trouble yet. A bag of the plugs and the tool to install them should be able to be had for less than $10 anyways, and they're extremely easy to replace.

My 8500 plain's RJ-11 connection was in good shape after 5 years and I also took it out of my car every day, but I was careful with it.

It's good to hear that it's not going to wear out as fast as I thought. I have an RJ-11 / RJ-45 Crimper so I'm good on that end if anything should happen to the cord itself. I was just worried about the Internal Module of the Detector. Looks like I'm ok.... Thanks for the feed back

I hardwired the rd in, used a female to female telephone connector and then used a short phone line to connect to the rd. That way if anything breaks its just the short phone wire.

That's a great idea ........ I think I may have to try that.
I'm thinking that if I could find something like the photo below, it would work perfect. I would need it to have a male end that would plug into the detector and the other side would be female to acept the smart cord.....

Could you post some pics of your Cable Mod?
