Default What are these frequencies from??

I was out driving around in escanaba mi last night and got some weird frequencies that i need help with jimbonzzzzzz!!! I know that some this may be due to my spec display being off but i just wondered what the hel$ you thought???

I got a 34.946 ghz now that could either be a kustom signals talon at 35.5 actual or a stalker freq hopper? it was a ka hit to verify the band obviously... But his gun would go from 34.946 to 35.150 or about 35.2 ish which leads me to beleive since my spec display did this like 5 times within constant on and many instant on hits that he is hopping frequencies What brand of gun do you think he is using and what type/?? He doesn't have pop so obviously not mph!!! As in esky they hit you with pop mode if they have it i get pop hits all the time just never from this officer ... I think this is a stalker atr freq hopper is this a correct assuption?? And if so how deadly can such gun be...

    THanks and need the input

    Default also

I got another hit in the very high end of the frequency spectrum at and a little above 37 ghz what the hell was that i can't find any gun to have a frequency that high but police radar bandwith says they can have guns allocated up to 38 ghz which means this was possible .... But i don't know of a gun that maintains such a frequency can you help me on this one as well as i am truely stumped here... i kinda of had the other one figgered out a little and this display has happened before so it is not just a one time occurence... i spec display can be off but that much...

    HELP!!!

ALpine~ PS: The state police have a hexagonal looking gun that is rather tall in profile and wide smoke colored west branch police have the same looking guns there's are k band but from the looks of it they don't have k band here only ka but i haven't been hit by a state boy yet or found one to leave his or her gun on so don't quote me on this... THey look from the front widsheild to be hexoginal kind of like a stop sign...?? DECATUR??? But im not sure...??

    THANKS

As for the different freqs, if there's a strong signal present then there will be image frequencies produced in the detector. It doesn't know which one to "lock on" to, which is why you'll sometimes get some different freqs displayed from one soures where they appear to be "hopping".

There are NO "frequency hopping" guns out there!

Here's what I posted in an old thread about it:

You might see it referenced at copradar.com and a few other places that copied it from there, but that it it. Roy has inquired about it, and JTW has even called up Stalker and asked about it, and they had no idea about what he was even talking about. If this gun was out there, you would think it would be heavily advertised by Stalker as a sales feature.

I have even spoken with engineers who has been in the industry for a LONG time, and he doesn't think this gun exists either. Another reason it probably doesn't exist: Police radar needs to have the calibration verified using a tuning fork, and the tuning for is different depending on the frequency the unit is at: for example a tuning fork for an MPH unit cannot be used with a Stalker or Kustom. If the unit frequency-hops, that would make verifying the calibration with a tuning fork impossible.

I did some digging before and I believe what happened was that when the Stalkers were released in the early 90's, they had to get FCC approval for the new Ka frequency. They got approval for 34.2-35.2, and at this same time I guess there was word that they were working on a frequency hopping unit that could utilize the whole range. I have never seen any hard evidence that that gun ever saw the light of day. But, info on this ended up getting published on copradar.com and copied to several other websites.

Plus, it wouldn't be a good anti-detection feature either since the detectors can scan this whole band. However, another term for frequency hopping here is "Spread Spectrum", where the frequency would actually hop hundreds of times a second or more, this would be so fast that the detectors couldn't even pick the signal out of the background noise. We better hope and pray that a Spread Spectrum gun hasn't been in the works since the early 90's, if one of those comes out I think we'll all be screwed (despite the fact that Belscort boxes imply that a Spread Spectrum upgrade would be possible)...

    Hex antenna = Kustom.

Don't worry too much about what the Tech/Spec display shows, I'm sure you'll see a lot of strange things go on...

    Default THanks

Thank you jimbonzz for you expertise i first was tipped off about this by another website obviously they are full of crap atleast i hope so!!! lol I was first introduced to frequency hopping mode in the army as our radios hop frequinceies like said thousands per sec meaning even with a killer scanner no one can latch onto our frequencies and hear what we are saying not only do we hop frequencies but we did it based on a certain time... meaning you had to be with 5 seconds of set time and if you didn't know the set time go f ing luck gettin one of our transmissions!!! So yes if they did come out with something like that it would be extremely deadly probably even more so than or equal to laser....

Thanks for the info and the kustiom sig tip off on the state boys here i hope i provided some knowledge on freq hopping here... and yes the tuning fork thing makes sense but couldn't they make it automaticly calibrate...shhhhh don't say anything is that possible if so we are in for a world of hurt!!!!!

Frequency hopping transmitters use a number of things to decide the hop. Plenty of scanners can pick up frequency hopping stuff, earlier cell phones did this on analog networks and it was very easy to monitor calls. Encryption is the last real domain of radio privacy.

    Default thanks

Thanks jeeves for the info on encryption that is why it is almost impossilbe now days to decipyer digital cell phone conversations like in the past where you could just use a scanner it takes alot more than that now.... alot more... that is why the state police in michigan only use digital cell phones to talk to base they don't use radios ... because it is not secure enough... the only ones here that still use radios are county and city police...

The Michigan State police use a APCO-25 digital trunked radio system, not digital cellphones.

    http://www.radioreference.com/module...ame=RR&sid=100

I didn't see any notes regarding encryption on the talkgroups, so it's likely that one of the newer digital scanners (like my Pro-96) can follow their conversations.
