You can program the detector to show the volatge coming from your alternator. Go to Program, by pressing both buttons at the same time ontop of the unit, it will take you to program mode and you can scroll to "Pilot V" this mode will show the volatage. My experience has been the detector will sound the Lasar alarm when it spikes.
But I'll have to say, that really doesn't help me solve the problem at all, just points me in a particular area.
Mine will work fine somedays and other days it will screw up like you said everytime I step on the gas. I eventually unplug the thing, leave it off for a day and plug it back in hoping that it corrected itself.
I think what's interesting is that we both have Jeeps, and apparently we both have put batteries in our cars recently. I agree it seems as though there is something defective with the unit. They should make good on the unit, but you know how that is. Its all about money. I have one of the original passports that is probably 20 years old that works great still. I bought this one specifically for the lasar technology, now with this problem i feel like i have stepped back twenty years and tossed $300 out the window. What ever happened to customer satisfaction? I run a business and I stand behind my product so I get good word of mouth for a job well done. But like I said, it's all about money today, not business in the future. So I just keep trying to figure out what the problem is. I will keep trying, and if I figure something out I will let you know. Then maybe their tech department can solve the problems people are having with there unit, cause they apparently have no idea. Their fix is replace a part they claim has gone bad, and charge you for it. 20 years and no problem verses 2 years and big problem, equals decrease in quanlity They know it and should do something about it. What do you do, grin and bear it in today's world. Not happy about it, but apparently it doesn't do any good to complain.

Default Is it a quick fix or did I solve the false laser alert?

Mike, In an attempt to further solve the problem, I did the unthinkable, I opened the unit to check things out. The unit was so hot I couldn't hold onto it. After it cooled for a few minutes I was looking at the curcuit board to see if something was loose or broken. I noticed one little area near the plug in that had the appearance of corrosion. I took a mechanical pencil , retracted the lead, and slightly scraped the so called corrosion away eliminating the possibility of these two areas shorting out. I put the unit back together thinking nothing too much of it and guess what? I have yet to have a false alert since. Now it might do it today when I get in the car, but I have intentionally driven my car hard trying to get it to sound, and it does not. The tmp has been hitting 100 around these parts the past couple of days and the unit still gets hot, however thus far, it seems as though I have corrected the problem. I hope this is the case. No filters, no hardwiring, no sending the unit back, just a close inspection of the curcuit board and making certain nothing is touching seemed to do the trick. Im not an electronics guru, but give this a look see and let me know what hapens.

I also have a 8500 that started to Laser false a lot. I finally just had to turn off the Laser function, but decided to by a new 8500 x50 to replace it.

Well, after about 2 years of use, that unit is doing the exact same thing!

I went out and bought a new Bel RX65 to give this a try out. I turned off the Laser function and the X band on the 8500 x50 and stuck that on the back window of my SUV, and put the RX65 on the front.

I am not as happy with the RX65. I think that its not as sensitive as the 8500 x50 in most bands. Sometimes my Escot on the back window will pick up K or Ka band at the same time as the RX65 and its even rear facing. The geiger counter beats frequency are much better in the 8500 than the RX65 also

The only nice option is that the RX65 has that the 8500 x50 doesn't is the added voice alert.

well did my suggestion work? I have yet to have a false laser since I cleared the corrosion from the curcuit board. Let me hear if you were able to do the same, and if so, were the results as possitive as mine/

Still no false laser alerts after 2 weeks of hard accelerations and driving.
I must have either totally disconnected the laser (JK) or corrected the problem that everyone has been complaining about. Escort can send the check directly to my home address. Thanks.
Has anyone else tried this solution? If so, let me know what your results are.

Mel; Thanks for the tip. I was on vacation and I just read your post. I have not attempted this fix yet but I will open the unit in the next day or so and report back. Either way good work. I hope the fix works out.

I opened the unit last night and everything looked like new. I could not see any signs of corrosion, loose connections etc. Oh well.

mike, when I opened mine up, it all looked fine at first glance, then I started tracking each circuit and noticed one small area that didn't stand out, but just looked as thought some of the flux from the solder spilled over. Kind of had the appearance of corrosion. It was not very wide, just a thin piece about as wide as a mechanical pencil lead. I scrapped this area clean and have had no problems since.
Make certain nothing could possibly be touching.
