my top 2 bottons don't work anymore!

Hi, this is my first post. But I was wondering if any of you have experieced the same thing. My top 2 Escort 8500 bottons stopped working. I can't dim the unit or switch from Auto to city or highway. I can, however, hold the 2 bottons while starting the unit and resetting the unit. What is going on?

well Ill say it now, after 41 hits here, NOBODY knows, i gotta say this is a rather uncommon problem, they work when pressed as both, but not as one, I mean this is just too wierd....where did you buy your X50??...and dont tell me eBay

I have no clue either, so what you're saying is, if you hold the buttons down when you turn the 8500 on, it resets? Are you holding all 3 buttons (including mute) down? If you only have to hold the two top buttons down to make it reset, then your mute button may be stuck or broken (check the one on your smart cord as well).

Does the unit work properly otherwise (e.g. alerting to radar, making noises)?

Thanks for the reply. I have the old 8500, not X50. The bottons ONLY work when I hold them while turning on the unit, without the mute botton. Once the unit is on, they don't work at all when pressing individually or together.

I think you brought a good point regarding the mute botton. Maybe the problem is from the mute botton being stuck, so that's why I can reset the unit without pressing all 3 bottons. Instead, I can do so just by holding the 2 top bottons.
