well v1 users do complain about the dreaded "E" message if the unit gets too hot,and not so sensitive Ka detection on the newer revs, so really there's no perfect detector out there

I have had to send my X-50 in twice since buying it (7-2004) both times the laser would false for no reason. The first time it screwed up was 3-2005 and then on 3-2006, I leave it out in the truck non-stop. The unit still works great and it just gave me a self-cal message last month, but no service-required message yet. In addition, I have had my V1 since 3-2006 and have had to ship it off twice. The first time it would miss a X band false about once a week or so. When it did miss it I would turn the unit off and turn on my X-50, which would show X 10.539 every time. I then would turn back on my V1 and it would alert most the time, but some times that would not even do the trick, so I decided to send my unit in to be serviced. I am very happy I did because since then I have ran a cross a sheriff using X band (10.541). Once I got back the unit, it never missed the false again, but I had a deferent problem it would freeze up totally and I could not get it to alert to X, K (both being automatic doors), Ka (my cheap Radio Shack detector), and laser (My car stereo remote). The unit was still 3.826, so I sent it in again and they could not replicate it, but the tech mike said he would change some things out. My point being that no matter what detector you go with you always get a chance of getting a lemon, or you might get a superb unit, it is all about your luck.

Jim, I believe the V1 can fall out of tune without displaying the "E"

This happened to Holla, if I remember correctly, and he didn't report getting an "E".

check the V1 board, a lot of users are pulling their hair out right now over sub-par Ka range and E displays, translate "E" into "service required" the antiquated display cant spell it out for you. If you can pick up one of the 3.826 V1 that was foolishly sold in the effort to get the latest and not-so-greates V1 update then you would be ok if you can live with J's. Hang onto the x50 and fix it, if its still under warrranty you will be ahead of the cash game.

Not just people here, but me and my friend have problems. Noone I personally know with V1s has had trouble. And it seems that amount on this forum with x50 problems is more than V1.

I know problems can happen with anything. I just don't want to send this thing off and then later on down the road have to do it again because it's doing something stupid liking giving a laser warning when I honk the horn. And it's long been out of warranty or of course I'd send it in.

Any ideas should I send it and then sell it or sell it as is?

My car works fine and anything else I use in it work fine. It's the detector.
It also does it in a friend's car with his x50. His car is 6 years newer than mine and a completely different car. It's the detectors.

That's good if ya'll don't have problems with your's. That's good. Maybe you want to buy mine so you can have another?

Can anyone answer my question? What would be best to do with this thing? Sorry guys, I don't want to keep this junk just to have more problems down the road. I'm glad you haven't had problems, but I have. I ain't keeping MY problem prone detector. So you can call it my loss your gain or whatever. Just looking for advice on what to do with it, either fix and sell or just sell? I don't need all this junk about how you haven't had trouble with your's. I'm not trying to get rid of your detector, I'm trying to get rid of mine.

well since the v1 is having some issues with Ka range, i'd say send it in for service to get repaired. And I saw in other threads that the reason why it falses on laser is because the shielding inside the RD goes bad on the older units or corrosion on the power terminal. What rev # is it?

I'm sorry now to choose X50. Do you know the percentage of X50's malfunctionning after couple of months.
