    Default Odd startup on x50

I always make it a point to turn off my x50 with the dial switch before unplugging it or turning off/ start my car. However, sometimes once i've started my car, and im ready to turn the x50 on, it startups wierd. Instead of going through the whole "8500...x...laser...pop" startup thing it does, it will simply go to my H scanning dot. Its like i turn it on, and it completely skips the startup test. Is this something i should be concerned about? should i send it in? I should also note that when it does this, i turn it back off and then back on again so that it will run through the startup just to be safe

That's odd... you can select fast startup in the options, which skips the power-up ritual, but I've never heard of it skipping sometimes and not other times. Maybe voltage fluctuations in your car? Is the engine running when you turn the X50 on?
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I have it set for standard startup so that it should run through everything, and yes, the car is running when i turn on the x50. I never turn the x50 on before the car just incase of a voltage spike.

I've never heard of that before. I would definitely send it in if still under warranty.

It's hard to pinpoint intermittent problems like this but you should try it in other cars to be sure.

check the settings and make sure it's not on FST start-up. If it is it won't go through the whole deep=brap=daddap tones

I know its not on FST start-up... Like i said it only does this on occasion, its not every time. Most of the time it will go through its whole startup with all the tones, but every once in a while it will skip it and go straight to my scanning dot.

Does fast start up lower sensitivity or have any effect on the RD? It drives my girl crazy when I turn it on, especially if she is sleeping.

She hates those damn speed signs, lol.

I saw one in Toronto in residential area near Yonge and Sheppard a few days ago.

With the STI getting popular, I can see the radar war taking on a whole new strategy. By by spectre, hello pop radar.....

wow, your post is all over the place

no it doesnt change the performance at all, my understanding is that it skips the audial and visual alerts if you for some reason desire not to view/see them...however you must still wait the same amount of time for the RD to start alerting if signals are present
