Newbie here with 8500

Hi Guys,

I am a newbie here on the forum and wanted to share this modification I did to my 12 volt cord.

I hope this is ok to show a modified cord for my 8500. Dont know if anyone has tried something like this:

It seemed that no matter where I place the RD, I never had a good visual on the flashing led. I say this as opposed to the audio beep, because some times I listen to my stereo a little louder and it overcomes the beeping of the 8500 even when I have adjusted the volume under advanced mode to "extra loud". I removed the red led thats normally in the cig plug and soldered a pair of 20 gauge stranded wire in its place. I installed the red led into one of those keychain led housing that had a visor clip to attach to a ballcap. Now I can point the led right at my eye and have no problem seeing when the RD is going off even if the stereo is extra loud in car. This setup has been working for 8 months and I like it. Because the led is red I do not lose my night vision. However when I first installed this on my mirror, I was going down the hiway and saw a red flashing light from "what appeared to be my rearview mirror" and thought the cops were on my tail :shock: , but realized when I turned the radio down it was only my RD.

That is extremely cool man, very nice work with that. I must say it seems bright as ****!

The layout looks extremely stealthly still... as far as where everything is placed... however, I can't imagine during the night how bright it would seem in that last picture for the cars around you. (Must look like Close-Encounters of the 3rd kind).

Really though, that looks like some nice work right there, you shouldnt be missing an alert anytime soon. :wink:

You must listen to your music real loud !

The laws differ from state to state..but if your music can be heard from 50ft away from the vehicle, you could get a ticket for that !

nah, music is not really that loud... I am more worried about the the 347 stroker with 2 stage mac flow mufflers. Thats a little loud even with the windows closed. I changed out the stock carpeting (older car 1987) and the new carpeting has no deadening effect.

I have a few questions though, I have been contemplating this m20/m40 blinder and I recently installed the clear headlights. Are these new style headlights going to hurt me because they are clear as opposed to the diffused "old style"?

Also what is recommended for placement location and do I really need blinders installed on the backside of vehicle?

I can see why you would want to get a jammer

The clear headlights might be a little more reflective, but with either ones, youd still get pulled over. Im not the laser jammer expert here, but Im guessing an M20, with both heads placed as close as possible to the lights should suffice you. Depending on where you live, you might or might not need rear protection.
