Actually, have you ever driven on the bahn?

I have an Audi A4 and A2 in Germany, my friend has a Polo... 80 hp Turbo diesel which he takes on the bahn...

Not all sections allow unlimited speed, but the rules are strictly enforced... if you have a slow car, stay right.. :-)

Where can you buy a gps speedometer?

Yep. I lived in Germany for 5 years. Went to Fahrschule and got a German driver's license. Drove on A8, A81 daily. Drove A5 and A7 just about every weekend. Not to mention the many feeders that have unrestricted sections. I've driven just about every inch of the bahn. Even got to experience it in East Germany when the Wall fell...but it was a mess...

I went once before the fall....had to have Flag Orders and be in Class A's, ride the Hannover/Berlin train....and go through Checkpoint Charlie in Class A's to visit East Berlin.

We went to Berlin again in the fall of '89 when we heard they were going to let the Easties in for the day to shop...was that ever a zoo. People everywhere, and when they came through in their Trabbies we were all beating on the roofs, handing them beers, money, and "welcoming them to the world"....those folks, their eyes were huge in wonder....it was a great time because all the tensions were gone...us, French, British, West German, East German, Soviet...all of us soldiers were just people, for a brief moment in time, just people coming together.

Went back several times after that...first for The Wall concert (I'm in the video) and then just to go and explore. No orders needed and we could drive the whole way. I lived in Stuttgart at the time.

Any GPS will work as a spedometer. I took my Garmin Nuvi 250 with me last time I was over in Germany. Drove from Mannheim to Frankfurt, and hit 240km/h according to the A4 Diesel's speedo... however upon my return my Nuvi read max speed 156mph... which means either it was slightly off, or perhaps I went quicker than 240km/h briefly when I didn't look @ the spedometer.

In either case, who cares if the radar detector tops out at 127... I mean really come on.

    hehhe no.

I think sometimes if the maps are bad, the GPS will try to "snap to map" basically figure out which road you are on even though it thinks you are onroad. These corrections sometimes can skew max speeds.

But I can confirm from speedo I did at least 142mph That was fun !
