Default Need help with my 8500 x50 blue

Well I bought my x50 off a friend of mine months ago, and it's served me well since. I've recently gotten service required messages, but my RD worked fine whenever I turned it off and then back on. Well here's the deal... the other day my car was impounded (long story) and I think they left the RD plugged into my cigarette lighter all night/day until I picked my car up the next day. To my horror, my x50 wouldn't turn on, the smart cord doesn't light up, nothing, no response at all. I've tested it out in multiple cars and made sure it wasn't my cigarette lighter, it works fine. My question is, what could be wrong and how can I fix this? Is it my RD or just my smart cord? Can I send it in to be repaired if I have no proof of purchase or paperwork to go with it? It was a transaction between me and my buddy, I don't know of any warranty or anything. Thank you for any help you can provide, I'm praying that I won't have to go get a whole new RD because that's really not in my budget right now...

I wouldn't have made the post if my cigarette lighter was the problem... I meant i've tested the RD in multiple cars, in order to make sure that it WASN'T my cigarette lighter, which proved that it (it being my cigarette lighter, not my x50) works fine.

Is leaving it plugged in in the cig lighter all night bad?

I have no idea, that's what I'm trying to find out, it worked fine before my car was impounded and when I picked it up it was still plugged in, only it wasn't functioning at all. I suppose I could've blown a fuse in the smartcord or something, but I came here to ask some more experienced people their opinions.

No it is not. Many people leave them up(either accidentally or on purpose) over night and they work just fine. For example I've seen this Mustang who always leave his X50 up all the time (even in the sun and stuff) out in the parking lot. Seems to be working fine everytime I go by. Only problem is maybe draining the battery, but you'd have to leave it three an extended amount of time.

Maybe it is the power cord. Try to get a voltometer to check the voltage? If it isn't that, then maybe the X50 is broken.

Another (scary) though is that maybe, just maybe, the people at the impound happened to have a broken X50 and swapped out yours for theirs, though this (I hope) is highly unlikely.

Does your lighter have power ALL the time? Some cars have constant power to the lighter even with the car off, your RD might have been left on the whole time.

AH! My RD turns on once I start my car. Doesnt have power all the time.. So it can't drain the battery right?
In my buddies Chrysler it is constantly on, so when we walk to his car in the parking lot it's going off.
So since mine doesnt give juice until I turn my car on, it's ok to always leave it in my car? yes?

    Default Yes.

Yes, you can send in to be fixed although its going to cost you. Somewhere around the tune of 80 bucks. Its like 70 something, but close enough to 80 for me. Hence I round up.

The car doesn't give you cig lighters power until it's been turned to aux or fully on to my knowledge.
