When did Escort start manufacturing the first Passport 8500?

I could be wrong but Escort appears to release a new RD every 3 years.

I was concerned that the 8500 that I just bought was manufactured in 1996, according to the serial #. I didn't think that the 8500 was made that long ago. By the way, the serial # is 2EZ0860596. I was thinking possibly 5th week of 1996.

Escort didn't exist in 1996. The Passport/Escort/SOLO line of detectors was built by Cincinnati Microwave Inc back then. In 1996 Cincinnati Microwave was selling the 4600 as their top line detector.

What is the REV #. I have some that date back to REV 13 and they are great detectors.

i have two 8500's, both are rev 15. i guess the rev 13 models came out before the rev 15 models?
