    Depends...

If they claim it is brand new, you can't really be sure it is brand new even if it is in a shrink wrapped box. Ebay is not an authorized reseller. You get no warranty.

If it is used then make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

Ebay is all about trust. I use Ebay to sell my stuff. I don't get off on ripping people off. Some do.

How much do you trust people you do not know? My advice: buy it new from an authorized reseller or direct from manufacturer. Save yourself the worries and get it new, plus you get a warranty.

Long ago I was going to buy an 8500 (maybe 7500) from Ebay. I decided to call Escort and they said Ebay is not authorized from Escort and you will have no warranty. They also said that it can't be new since Ebay is not an authorized reseller.

I take everything Escort says with a grain of salt but I didn't want to get it knowing I was not covered.

Ebay offers a warranty for that (around $25)!

    Hi there,

I've been selling used and new radar detectors on eBay for more than six years, mainly to people outside the United States (I specialize in the European and Australian Markets, and I also sell to clients in Asia).

Actually, I haven't sold used units in several years now. Presently I only sell new units.

    So, here's the thing:

I'm reputable and so are others. But there's also LOTS of scamming going on. In particular, I see ads for older V1s all the time where the seller falsely claims it is a current model. The new owner who buys one of these in Europe is going to be very disappointed as he sees the sickening red flash of the Photo Radar camera and he gets his first Ku-Band Photo Radar ticket in the mail from his supposedly current-model V1!

With eBay, though I think the majority of sellers are honest, it's still a big-time "Buyer Beware" situation.

    Cheers,

    John at RadarDetectors1
