Default Veil Guy's Production 9500i Progress Report

Fortunate to have received a current production model of the [replacer_a], I have decided to provide a running log of real-world experiences with this model in the field in the interim between now and our next ultimate radar detector review & comparison tests 2007 expected out later this spring/summer.

You can read about the full details here at the [replacer_a].

    Enjoy!

Can you test locking out a non LEO K band and then see if it alerts to a real LEO K band or radar gun K band?

You seem really high on the 9500i. I was too at first. Unless I see reports to the contrary, I don't trust it.

    nascar,

The potential of this detector is what I find exciting. Having a fully loaded database of non-radar-like speedtraps is very cool, in my opinion. And, although its got nothing to do with detection ability, having a real-time speed display right in plain view is really pretty cool.

At this point, I think the GoL would be better suited to explore the details of
your question. My time with these detectors is pretty much limited (by design) to behind the wheel on the open road. What you are asking may require a staged setup.

Yes, I agree. Out of the box thinking. Once they get it all ironed out it will be one of the best.

Thanks for your "real world" write ups. The more information the better.

    Thanks.

    nascar,

You're more than welcome! Although me wife may not [does not] agree  I really love doing them as time consuming as they are. Gives me a chance to get and do some serious driving in all sorts of road conditions and states.

I find it difficult enough here in Jersey on 287 (North of Rt 23), 80 (West of 40), and 78 (West of 287) with NJ SP. IO X and Laser is more their preferred choice now I feel.

I find it interesting you were able to pull over and chat with a Trooper as he was shooting Laser.

    nascar,

At first he was a bit tentative, but after we got going and I showed him some of the equipment, like the 9500i's speed indicator (which he thought was pretty cool) and shared with him what I was doing, he was very cool about it.

Most of the guys I meet on the road are pretty cool. They're into cars and toys just like the rest of us boys.

Default Not in the REAL world!!

I've got a question about the 9500i. I pass a school everyday, and it has a K band transmitter on the front doors. Nearly everyday the frequency, according to my X50, is different. Sometimes by .050, sometimes by .004, but how could the 9500i possibly only lock out this transmitter when quite obviously it doesn't transmit on the EXACT same frequency every day. If, for instance I lock it out on 24.165, and the next day it shows 24.139, will it go off?? If it doesn't, then the question is, what if an officer is there transmitting at 24.139??

I really don't believe it is going to work in the long run.....

.... nor does anybody else until they make some serious changes in the way the approach the software technology side of this adventure they have taken with the 9500i.

It's likely the harmonic from the school's source will interfere with the LEO radar unless he's probably at least 0.10 off from the false source, so you should be good.
Because of your travel speed the frequency drifts and the 9500i as shown in videos is not completely accurate on the display, so all of it is approximate. I suspect the frequency refresh rate on the display is around one refresh every 2 seconds or so.
