Default Big fan of the 9500i, but I've sent it back...

I started a blog to test the 9500i against the 8500 x50. I haven't had a lot of time to do tests lately, but today I was driving in front of my girlfriend who's got an 8500 x50 in her car and a police officer pulled out in behind her. The entire time the officer was behind her she got FULL ka-band alert, and I only got 1 bar ka-band alert for 2 seconds, and no alerts after that. I am very disappointed about the situation.

It is good you didn't believe us. I strongly urge everyone to try things out for themselves whenever possible. But, now you have seen for yourself and this way you can make your own conclusion.

I'll go out on a limb and say... You'll be sending it back.

i liked by x50 ver 5 very well. I upgraded to the 9500 went it came out and what a disappointment. Biggest feature of the unit was the gps which worked less than half the time. i have the v1 now but have not tested its range yet.

How fast were you going? It's supposed to adjust sensitivity based on how fast you're going. If you're doing 25 or 30 mph, it may be giving you a minimized alert because the threat isn't great.

At least that's what I remember reading in the literature, and the website.

Not defending it one way or another, just offering some perspective.

I've had mine well past the 30 trial period. I still haven't to confirm or dispute the allegation that it will not detect K in an area where K is locked out. I think I remember a situation where I THINK it worked as advertised, but it was very early on, before I read about all the concerns.

I do concur that the sensitivity does adjust by speed. Have noticed the ramp up is different based on how fast I'm going.

I'm not a Cannonball runner. I usually don't go much over 15MPH over the PL. I do like the GPS function, and that like my old 8500, does a great job of filtering out the falses.

If you were a "Cannonball runner", as you put it, you would quickly find out the speed meter only works upto 127MPH. They have sent me a second unit which was supposed to go upto 142MPH (They must have figured I wouldn't actually be able to test it). Guess what! It only goes to 127MPH just like the first. Slightly disappointing but no reason to send it back....yet. I've been happy with its performance so far.

The "speed vs sensitivity" thing can be turned OFF. It's only ON in Auto mode, in regaular City and Highway modes this is turned OFF.

It shouldn't be a big deal anyway, as long as it performs the way Escort claims: there's supposably two stages, below 15 MPH and above 15 MPH. At below 15 MPH, alerts are supposably heavily filtered with no alert except at point blank range. Above 15 MPH = full sensitivity.

I'm sure they'll have software for managing GPS locations, but I'll believe the "flash upgrades via USB" when I see it...

Yeah me too. I am willing to bet anyone that the USB port will never be used to update your firmware.
