I'd get the unit serviced by Escort (claim warranty) or returned to the vendor.

    Something is definitely not right.

I've had POP enabled on my x50 for quite a while (only recently changing this setting to disable), and it *never* did that. Any POP-falsing was just that, specific for "POP."

Something is not Kosher, and I don't like the implications of this to the normal function of your detector, even with POP disabled.

Man...just turn POP off and run it. You just said it is picking up well. I bet you don't run into the crazy false issue if you keep POP off.

My take on it is....If it were me I wouldn't care about POP mode anyway...so if it worked fine with it off I would just leave it off. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Now if you run into the same type of falses again with POP off then you definitely have some sort of bigger issue then POP

Well shoot, that's what I was planning to do if I couldn't get my V1 fixed. I'm getting so sick of the lack of quality control from the big names i'm about to say F*CK it and buy a cheap Whistler.

Well, yeah, but I call BS. I gave them almost $360 after taxes and I expect every f'in part of that machine to work. If I have to send it back to get that, then so be it.

I'd send it back tomorrow if I didn't have my trip on Sat. I was tempted to get another Escort at Best Buy and then pay the restocking fee (cheaper than a ticket) once I got to Austin. However, I *think* the detector is working fine. I've gotten some false K full bar readings with the POP off but it's usually near the same spot (plus or minus 1/2 mile) and once in duration. So, I chalk that up to a legit false.

I agree with you on that. Unfortunately quality control at Belscort has been sub standard at best since I can remember. Now this may have changed recently but I would say 50% to 70% of people who buy a new belscort RD end up having some sort of quality issue with it. Correct me if I am wrong fellas. I have been away for awhile

Yes, turn POP off for your trip. It is far less likely you'll encounter POP than IO anyway.

Ok, another update for those interested.

This morning, it did it again with POP off. So, I immediately turned off my satellite radio to eliminate if the situated antenna was causing an issue. The problem persisted with the satellite radio off.

So, after that event, I went ahead and removed the double cig lighter plug (though, seriously, that was more to amuse Escort customer support as I know it's not the problem). Hasn't repeated yet.

I also left a message with Michael Kennedy who is manager of retail support at Escort. I'm hoping if I pick up another at BB, then return it when I get to Texas they will at least be kind of enough to cover the restocking fee considering the unit is only 21 days old coupled with the fact I simply can't send it in and get it back before 7am Saturday.

At this point, I've lost confidence not in the product itself, but the product I have in my car.

Default DID YOU TIGHTEN THE HORN SCREWS YET ! ! !

Well, did you try or not. Obviously Escort techs can't reach through your phone and fix your unit. You can't get a replacement in time for your trip. So open up the case and put a bit of torque on the horn screws.
