Default WHY in the world is this (see post) happening to my X50?

To preface this, the only change I made to my X50 in the past 24 hours was turning POP On---I've owned it for three weeks (with POP Off) and have not experienced the problem I'm going to mention below.

Last night, I'm coming home on the interstate and I get an instant full K alert, then it dies down...about ten seconds later, I get it full again, hangs around then dies down. Then yet again another 8-10 seconds later. I thought it was just a statey behind me sampling traffic.

Then, this morning I was turning on to the road where I work and it did the whole thing all over again. When I pulled into my parking spot, about 1.5 mile from where it started, I had about a 75% K signal just at constant.

Is this related to me turning on the POP? I'm just a few days from an interstate trip and the last thing I need right now is my new RD going schizo on me.

You may want to call Escort for help, It's possible that there maybe a calibration problem or problem with antenna or possible both?

You know, I also failed to mention that I reset the unit so I could check what version I had (6.1, btw) and this was yesterday, right before I turned on POP. I would think that resetting it would not make it do this, however. I wonder if the POP option has a bug.

    Called Escort, and I quote:

Escort: "Yes, it sounds like having POP on is causing this problem"

Abe: "Really? Why would it cause it to just go constant on like that?"

Escort: "The RD is emitting a frequency and picking up "itself" in the process, causing you false alerts. We recommend customers run with it off."

Abe: "Then why bother even putting it on the detector?"

Escort: "While it isn't a probable threat, it is a threat no less. There are only about 7 to 8 guns in the country that run POP, so, that's why we recommend you turn it off as it's doubtful you'll run into it."

I mean, it's nice to know there is nothing wrong with the detector and glad I didn't pay any extra for this useless POP feature. I had heard that POP causes falses but never thought it would be this bad when it happened.

sounds like a sketchy answer to me.

I've been running my x50, 6.1, with everything on and don't get those type of falses. Telling you to turn off a feature you've paid for and they advertise is a crock. ( IMHO )

I want to keep this post around and see if anyone else has had or heard of this happening to them. Like an idiot, I didn't get the Best Buy replacement program so I would have to send it in if it has a problem. Which means, time I'm vulnerable on the road.

I agree jeff, the answer is sketchy and I'm hoping to get some feedback from folks that have had their X50's for much longer than I have.

That answer from Customer Service at Escort is unacceptable. Another call center boob that doesn't know squat.
Look this is a problem with your unit. Many users of the X50 drive with POP on and of course they do get the occasional POP false, kind of have to live with that. So your unit has a different issue, the fact that it began when you turned POP on is circumstantial.
For a possible solution, though this is iffy, open the case and gently tighten the horn screws. See if you get lucky. Don't remove the horn as this can end up dumping a lot of metal shards from the self tapping screws into your unit. Just try to tighten the antenna horn screws lightly, just a bit of pressure. If the unit still falses as before then you have to send it in for repair.
    Good luck

That's an unacceptable answer and you should tell them so.. "Do you know who I am? I'm the sausage king of Chicago and I don't like being messed with".

If I open the unit though, can't they see that and then my warranty is void?

I keep trying to call back to see if I can get another person in the support area and I keep getting the same girl :x

She said I just need to send it in. Why? The damn thing is 3 weeks old.

Hmmm, maybe I should have gone with Valentine (scratching my chin while looking away pensively...)
