    Default Installing a kill switch

I know that this has probably been mentioned in older posts...

I am interested in installing a kill switch for my X50 Blue. Is there a wiring diagram available for the DirectWire SmartCord? Also, where's the best place to mount the kill switch? Thanks in advance!

Simple - since you're wiring-in a direct-wire SmartCord, just cut-in any switch of your choice between the SmartCord's powered lead and the vehicle's lead.

Placement of the kill-switch would of course be personal-preference.....not only does proper actuation (i.e. that you wouldn't want to be accidentally bumping into it all the time) matter, but you should also consider issues such as discrete operation, out-of-sight, etc.

I presume you mean the wire I spliced into with the 3M connector is the vehicle lead???

Post some pics when you install your killswitch, not a bad idea but RD's aren't illegal where I am.

Will do. RD's aren't illegal where I am either, unless you drive a commercial vehicle over 18,000 lbs.

I recently purchased a 25A 12VDC rocker switch (part #275-730) from Radio Shack for my kill switch. If I just attach the bare wire to the connectors on the switch, will it work? The connectors on the switch itself look like it plugs into something. I just want to make sure before I destroy a $30 DirectWire cord. Thanks!!!

i am thinking about this too since i have the detector on a switched 12V source, not to shut it down if something happens, but to turn it off if i feel like not having it on

I am probably going to install this kill switch soon, as my wife and I are planning a trip to Toronto. Do I need to solder the wire to the kill switch, or can I just wrap the bare ends around the switch posts??? If solder is needed, what type should I use?

Also, as a side question, how in the **&*#! do you post pictures to the board???
