Default City vs. X off on 8500 x50

According to the 8500 x50 v6.1 manual, and the online FAQ at escort, city and auto mode ONLY effects X.

So, if it is correct, instead of turning X off, I can use city (std/loX/noX)?
    and
city noX == anything (highway/auto/city) with x off?

Seems weird. Anyone with more insight / experience :?:

    There's no difference.

Personally I like to run highway with X off, just to make sure. But I think I'm just being silly.

City, the unit will only alert to a strong X band.
CityLowX, the unit will only alert to a VERY strong X band.
CityNoX the unit will NOT alert to an X band signal period.

Those are button selectable Sensitivity modes. Using these modes the unit will set a higher and higher level (threshold) before it will alert to an X band. The unit still processes X band detects, it just doesn't alert till the signal is at a higher level depending upon which mode. The user can preprogram a preferred X band CITY mode if desired. The user can restore X band sensitivity simply by changing the sensitivity mode to Highway, or the smarter mode of Auto.

Programming X OFF is a different funciton. When you program X band OFF, the unit doesn't even look at X band, it simply doesn't sweep the X band. With X band programmed OFF, selecting Highway & Auto does not restore X band detects, the only way to restore X band detects is to reprogram the unit to X ON, or of course do a factory Reset.

Yes, City NoX is just like Highway mode with X off. I have my city mode set to NoX and thats what I drive around with, but when I go on road trips and such I put it back on highway. There are a ton of false X's in my town and in years I haven't been hit with legit X-band until I went on a road trip to NM.

I used to just have X turned off entirely but it was too much of a pain in the ass to keep turning it back on for road trips, so I just set my city to noX and turned X band back on.

We don't know this for sure. The unit may still sweep the X band but simply surpresses the alerts as well.

after seeing 2 LEOs now using X band in my area, turning mine off is not an option. Got one from a local Sheriff car just this morning.

FWIW, I feel (not 100% sure) that in city and tech mode, weak X are shown if and only if another band shows up. I could probably test it somewhere with noX and X off to see if it makes a difference.

City from my experience does not just affect X. It also slightly reduces sensitivity of Ka and probably K. I noticed this while I did about seven passes in both city and highway of a LEO shooting constant on Ka.

Sometimes I get this impression as well.
    Just depends on the situation.

Does turning X-band off in the settings have any effect on the detection of other bands? Does it make the detection speed any better?

I've actually been thinking about this for a few weeks now, and I think I might just set up City NoX, but if it will yield better performance, I'll just turn off X entirely.

And for that matter, does enabling POP have any negative effects other than making the thing have more annoying falses?
