9500i vs. Beltronics RX65 in range...

I have not experienced any noticeable difference in detection range from my old 8500 to the 9500i. Actually I just experienced a K-band warning from 1.2 miles away.

Shouldn't there be a difference between these 2 units.. Heck the 8500 x50 was supposed to almost double the range on certain bands of the original 8500... Hense the X50 in the name? So the 9500i should perform better than the old 8500's.

I was and still experience 1.5 mile Ka warnings with my old school 8500. I don't think I've read of any detector giving you 2.5 to 3 mile warnings, much less an X50.

Even if one did, would you really want it unless you were doing flat out high speed runs in the middle of no where?

A 3 mile warning is almost a nusiance as you may begin to tune it out, especially in urban settings.

This of course is my own humble opinion.

My understanding is that depending on the revision number, in many cases the X50 does not have a dramatically different range than the 8500.

Along the same lines, Escort themself has stated that the detection part of the 9500i is based off of the X50. The 9500i adds the GPS capabilities along with speed based filtering, auto dimming, and speed display with voice alerts.

The Escort 8500 X50 doesn't have double the range, in fact the older Escort 8500 has better Ka detection and K band is about the same if not better, at least the new ones with the M4 antenna?

The inability to trust this unit, as a direct result of this question, has resulted in my 9500i to be sitting on a shelf. It has less than 100 miles of usage on it... I just do not trust it.

I'd be happy to take it off your hands and "test" it for you for awhile.

You are not going to get 2-3 mile warnings in an urban setting. Maybe on an interstate with relatively mild to no traffic.
