    Default G35 power supply

    Hi,

To start, I want to introduce myself to the forum. I've been using radar's for the last, I dont remember how long, and decided to finally join this forum. Right now, I have a Escort X50....and uh, thats about it. Short, but you get the idea.

Anyways, I recently got an 05 G35x, and for some reason, the radar isnt powering up. It works fine if i stretch the cord all the way to the power port in the arm rest. And it works in my other car just fine. So, does anyone have any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to fix it? Right now, I'm not wild about hardwiring it b/c i've been using mine on and off.

    Thanks.

Probably it isn't fitting right in the lighter socket. ESCORT might send you a "condom" for it if you call 'em, or you can try placing it in carefully.

I've tried to place it in carefully, doesnt seem to work. The powercord seems to have contact with the terminals too. I'll still try calling up escort and see if it makes any difference if the radar uses some protection.

Sorry if this seems to be a rather stupid idea --> I'm just not sure that you've tried it yet. ops:

Have you tried other accessories in that particular plug on your G35x?

Also, try plugging-in the detector to this troublesome plug, and then wiggling, in-turn, both the connection at the detector end as well as at the "plug" side. Maybe your new configuration puts some kind of unforeseen traction on the connector, causing it to lose-contact?

    Best of luck!

Couple of ideas, check the fuse in the end of the lighter socket portion of the plug, also sounds like the detector is a few years old, so you might want to change out the cord itself too, they are fairly cheap. And of course make sure you have the key turned to on then turn on the detector.

The most obvious answer is that the jack is bad in the G35. The detector's cord works, the detector works when you plug it into the arm rest, and everything works in your other car. So that means the obvious, the ACC jack on the G35 is bad.

Oops I thought it was working if the cord was stretched, not that he was trying a different jack. So now I agree with insider, the jack is bad.

Don't know if this is could be it, but this is something I've noticed with my X50.

Ever since I've had it (half a year ago) I've had it mounted high, above the rear view mirror. The distance from there to my 12V point is pretty decent. So most of the time, the cord had some decent tension to it. One day, when I connected a splitter (I need another port) I noticed my X50 would sometimes shut off(imagine the feeling  going down the road unprotected.)

Apparently, what has happened, with the tension of the cord over time, the contact where the cord connects inside the X50 has become "used" to there being a tension there (aka became loose?). So when there was slack from the extra length the splitter provided, there was no more tension.

Maybe that's what's happen to yours? Is the distance the same from the 12V point to the mount place in both cars? Maybe that explains why you have to stretch it. I don't know...just throwing an idea out there.

Thanks for all your help. I'm gonna try and see if the actual socket is bad. I think i have to go to the dealer anyways.
